Description (Eng): The social dances arranged by the 18th centuries courts and upper class were full of grandeur and splendour. The balls tended to be real aristocratic vanity fairs with the elements of other festivities, masquerades or performances. The ball ceremonial was soon formalised, first in France and then, despite its restricted character, everywhere. Since 1715 the grand balls in Paris started to be held in the Bal de l’Opera. For a certain payment the representatives of the third estate also received the right to take part in this dancing festivities, and the balls became the entrainment for all social classes. As in other subjects of luxury and fashion Paris was suggesting trends for the balls and in choosing ballroom outfits. During the French Revolution the centre of the ball culture moved to Vienna, which became refuge for many French aristocrats.

Most famous of them were opened in Paris in 1750 and in Austrian Wiener Neustadt in 1751. Their educational programs, as for example in Prussian Nobles Academy, included history, geography, philosophy, rhetoric, geometry, fortification, grammar, French language, drill, dancing and horseback riding. In many countries not only nobles but also the children of the bourgeoisie were accepted as students.

Description (Eng): The lotteries were common in early modern Europe. The first recorded lotteries to offer tickets for sale with prizes in the form of money were held in the Low Countries in the 15th century. Description (Eng): Liberum Veto was a form of unanimity voting rule that allowed any member of the Sejm to force an immediate end to the current session and nullify any legislation that had already been passed at the session by shouting "I do not allow!". The rule was in place from the mid-16th to the late 18th century in the Sejm's parliamentary deliberations. It was one of major causes of the deterioration of the Commonwealth political system – particularly in the 18th century, when foreign powers bribed Sejm members to paralyse its proceedings.
