    Default Roman Britain

Not got the game yet. Decided to pick it up today from Amazon so should have it tomorrow.

But ever since I heard about this new TW I had the idea to turtle up in Roman Britain. Focus myself there. Allow the rest of the Empire to collapse. Then try and rebuild the Empire some generations later. Is this something that's doable?

It is by all means possible. You won't have much fun conquering Briton because the Celts have viking units, but it can be a lot of fun defending it from vikings and sending invasion parties into Germany and Scandinavia. Good luck.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Like trying to recreate the British Empire before the time period

Sounds lots of fun... I have a feeling CA has made the Roman faction Britishable.. their accent in the game reminds me somewhat of Yorkshire.

No celts makes Britain a big downer. I hope CA rectifies that soon.

I'm sure they will add Celtic units sooner or later, for the meager price of 7 euros.

My next campaign will be the Romans in Briton.

Any tips for getting everyone there? Just pack up and head north? Take the sea route instead of overland?
Just walk up. Be abit tactical about how you leave the land behind, and you should be fine.

I'll bet the Irish faction will be FLC. CA Laycock were insinuating that modders should mess around with that faction.

I want to try this too! Why is it no fun to conquer Britain? No celts makes it harder? Easier? Not as immersive?

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Every movie or story you see about the Roman empire in Britain (and there are a lot of them) you have an image of how things are going to be. You're playing some epic Hans Zimmer music in the background as you send all your legions to Britain. Now you are what's left of the Roman Empire, of civilization itself. Some counts pop up in gaul as remnains of former roman provinces. The Germanic and nordic kingdoms to the east, however, first you have to tackle the north and west of Britain. The unruly and fearsome... Ehh.. vikings...?

No point, really. Your best provinces are in Italy, and they're also the most defensible. So the only reason to 'turtle in Britain' would be to deliberately make the game as hard as possible. Even Spain would be a better turtling choice.

Spain and Italy are the two areas I've never lost, or been in danger of losing. Although historically, Spain rebelled from Rome in around 408 AD.

Any tips on finance? As I flee the mainland and European settlements fall, my income is too. Did you go massively in debt or did you start disbanding troops? Thanks!

Financial problems seems to have cleared itself up. Now have tons of coin coming in as I lose settlements.

Britain is rebellion-central. Probably in part because it's still largely Pagan in a Christian empire. You can try to turtle up there. But expect to have a hard time holding onto it anyway.
