    Default Best Melee Infantry Units

Simple question. What are the best melee infantry units in the game? Which factions have them? I'm normally looking for capability and strength but you can comment with cost in mind as well. Could be a spear, sword, axe, club or pike unit.

Can we point out which faction they're from? Attila is more confusing when it comes to unit names.

For killing infantry Royal Huscarls and Hetaireia Guards. Hetaireia Guards have precursors and are more expensive so Royal Huscarls are more cost effective. Watch https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQg...fDMw7gspgN84KQ this channel he has lots of these tests with these units.

I'm going to list the best units from my MP experience. I'll focus on versatility and cost effectiveness, because having a durable and cheap anvil is the best imo.

    Germanic Factions:

Noble Germanic Swordsmen - Very cost effective tanks when you pop shield wall.

Gothic Warband - The offencive version of the Noble Germanic Swordsmen. No utility, but soo much stats for the gold you pay.

    Nordic factions:

Nordic Band - At the cost of only 120, you get a meat shield and deadly anti cav precursors - It's the perfect combination. Get 1/2.

Hirdmen - The nordic version of Noble Germanic Horsemen. Not as good, but have Scare utility.

    Roman factions:

Protectores Domistici - It's the roman version of Noble Germanic Swordsmen, a super tank for half the prize it should've been.

    Nomad Factions:

Steppe Levy - The unit have 70% missile block chance on it's front and left side while running towards you, what more can you ask for in the cheapest spearmen from the Huns? Get 1 - 3.

Uar Warriors - This unit doesn't beat the Dane Axe head to head, but it offers a lot more versatility. This beast is equipped with the fearsome Khanda. This clever does 30 armour-piercing damage versus infantry in addition to 30 base damage.

    Honorable mentions:

Any unit with the Dane Axe (Burgundian Axemen, Nordic Axe Warriors, Huscarls, Royal Huscarls, Hetaireia Guards). The dane axe melts infantry. It has 24 base damages, an insane charge, longest reach (hits first), but best of all 36 dmg that ignores armor completely on infantry units. Unfortunately, any cavalry charge or any missile unit will be the bane of this unit.

The cheapest Nordic / Germanic Pikemen. This is the defencive version of Nordic Band, for those times when you want to protect your skirimishers. Throw down a thin spaghetti line and get 1 or 2. In my opinion it's good, but unfortunately not a core unit.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.
