rome under powered

so when i play as rome on very hard it seems odd to get historical accuracy. carthage actually likes me but if i go to war with carthage and dont trade with them then while fighting them i get hard by barbarians in the north or carthage just keeps overwhelming me or their client states. i know Carthage was very powerful but its not like you can have a few major wars like in the punic wars, here once you start to fight its to the end. i try to play hard or very hard, and i can hold my own but getting away from italy seems a challenge and having to start a few times to get lucky on a few battles or mistakes by AI. anyone else experienced this?

Well....because you play on very hard. I mean come on, you pick difficulty that will make game unbalanced and difficulty on purpose and then you are surprised it is hard? In DeI difficulty level actually mean what they should. Anyway, you can win as Rome even on legendary, just focus on your economy first, make trade agreements and non agression pacts with as many tribes as you can, especially iberian tribes. Then take out Carthage together.

thanks, i didnt know what level the most balanced was, i know normal is pretty easy and hard seems to be about right i was just wondering if its because i sucked or if it was just skewed against the player for difficulty purposes.

You can also change battle difficulty in the campaign if you do not know that already, might help a bit if you play VH campaign and Normal battles. Also it is important which Roman family you pick. In general, do not rush things, take it slow and plan all the moves.

Rome is so overpowered. If you ask why i'll tell you just one thing. Look at Ala Legionaria and Grivpanvar (Parthian Noble Cataphracts) armour. Roman cavalry 70 and in history a full armoured cataphract is 75. Can you balance these Roman Cavalry please ?
