Default The strongest Roman infantry! Palatina defectors!.. Wait what?

This game puzzles me to no end, playing as the West Romans im expecting to field strong heavy infantry, but iam constantly let down by the lackluster Heavy infantry roster available.

Then i go over to my Visigoth campaign only to realize that without any tech really i get a infantry unit with all the advantages of a Elite palatina(Strongest Rome II heavy infantry) Just that my defectors perform better in melee defence and armor.

So i wonder, where is the juicy stuff for WRE?

Legio Comitatenses are almost comparable (little worse offensive stats, but much better defensive stats, much higher health) while at the same time they are cheaper. So what's the problem? Not to mention Herculiani Seniores with heavy spathas (36 Norm Dmg - 14 AP), with great all around stats. [http://www.honga.net/totalwar/attila..._comitatenses]

Also really decent spear infantry (Cornuti Seniores they have precursor weapons), decent skirmishers, and probably best crossbows in the game. (Elite will be enough, but if you want to go all pimp around use Ravenna Balistari).

And lastly, do you talk from the perspective of SP, H2H Campaign or MP?

SP, H2H. The problem is the damage is so insanely high, they rip anything to shreds and they have tetsudo on top of that with better stats than the Elite Palatina. Other Roman units come close to best, but they dont surpass, they should surpass the best Roman unit the goths! can recruit by far.

Why? The Goths DID defeat the Romans

It's part of the "artificial difficulty" present in most TW games as of late.

But one should mind though, that you ARE playing as a decaying empire, long gone are the glorious legions of old. With this roster you are supposed to survive, then upgrade them and... survive a little bit better. By the end you should be triumphing over your enemies but, not as easily as you used to in Rome 2 with all the lorica segmentata legions.
