Why in the name of the Lord almighty do archers or any skirmisher for that matter take a dive back before shooting at their commanded target? This literally kills them before my crossbows can get one volley off when fighting light horseman.

It's very annoying because they are well within range and I've done this multiple times with the same result.

crossbowmen are most notorious for this because of their reload times but wow if they are going to sit there and get smash anyway might as well get a volley off in their faces amiright?

It is because the game is imperfect. You have to accept this with Warscape Engine on which this is made. Not very suitable for melee games.

I also think it is very ennoying and s things up. But we cannot do anything for that matter unfortunately.
