    Default The Saxons Are Awesome + Vikings Units









    It's a cosmetic overhaul of the saxon faction (include also all the viking units), no stats has been modified. It doesn't need the DLCs and there is a version without the levy women. The goal of this mod is not being 100% historically accurate.
    It is historically accurate but not necessarily in the same era as Attila, one century at farthest, like in the retail game.


    The version with levy women
    The version without them
    The version with levy women and vanilla pikemen
    The version without them but with vanilla pikemen
    The version without javelin behind the shields


    Remember, if you want to use my mod with others ones, you have to manage your load order to load my mod before any other one. To do so, download this program it's a modmanager:

    ModManager

    Extract the file, launch the program, check the mods you want to use and put my mod on the top of the others by using the up arrow.

    Maybe in the future but not so soon. At least the other northmen factions share a lot of units with them. If you research a complete makeover you could try Fall Of The Eagles, i 'm working on it too, and you can load this mod before to use them both.

    Is this mod only a re-texture???

    It's nothing than a cosmetic mod no stats or anything else has been changed. It's fully compatible with almost everything (obviously not with a other mod that change the saxon units).

    Got a question for you tho : if saxon ppl got enough gold to get gold helmets, why whould they go to war or raid ? ahahah

    Most of the time it's made from brass or copper but anyway if they go to war or raid it's because, at the beginning, it's a way of life and at last they do that to conquer new lands and established a new home on fertile lands like in the south of England.

    Ironically centuries later the danish and norwegians vikings will do the same on their conquered lands.

    By the way the gold or the silver are too soft to forge a good weapon or a armor but some are gilded with it for prestige purpose.

    Pretty much this, get loot or die tryin. But like i said i don't try to do a lesson of history, i made that for gameplay purpose, to give to the player a feeling of satisfaction and achievement.

    In this era most of the warriors don't have armor and are not so well armed and equipped but it's a game and you have to have a attractive faction roster with iconic gears even if it's out of frame.

    Great stuff. I think more mods should have this kind of goal. Historically accurate mods are great and fill a niche but sometimes you just want things to look satisfying.
    It's always a great feeling to finally get that unit with awesome looking armor!

    Looks incredible, I'm even considering getting the Longbeards DLC so I can use this mod, and of course play as the factions after I'm done with the Saxons!

    Hadrien Ier i think you should check out Attila Enhanced Saxon skin mod by Arthalion your saxon skins plus his would make one amazing lookin army. Any skins that are left over or share the same unit could be made into new seperate saxon units

    I totally respect his work and obviously he has remarquable skills but we have a different vision about the design of the units.

    He mix some unmatchable element like a crest on a sutun hoo helmet which don't have a niche to put in one, and so on, it look cool but it's not my cup of tea.

    Long story short, i think it's not disrespectful to say that i want to follow closer the historical usage of some gear even if i make some compromise with history but only about the timeframe like the use of the sutton hoo helmet etc, but never too far in the future or in term of foreign cultural influence.

    Like i said before i would try to find a good mix between good game design and the History.
