    Default Prologue final battle

    Hey there,

I'm still pretty new with TW and currently having trouble with the final battle in the prologue. I always seem to get swarmed by the Romans and nothing I do seems to slow them down and I've retried it about 6 times now. Almost got it on the second run, I had 1 archer group + 1 cavalry against 2 of their heavy spears, was slowly chipping away at them with my archers while my cavalry kited them, but my troops ended up deserting. Haven't been able to get that close since.

Does anyone have any tips for this? Just seems like a huge difficulty spike for a tutorial.

Yeah that battle was a huge difficulty spike, and took me a few tries.

What I eventually did was to resposition the entire army up on the slope of the big hill by the right flank of your army. This seems to work well becuase it delays the Romans a bit more, and that big hill is more defendable, since your left flank is covered by the nearby buildings.

Thanks for the tip, that worked perfectly! Got in on my next try with at least half my army still up!

I've got all my army on the hill and they usually seem well on the way to winning the battle when the cavalry arrive...However, rather than saving the day, everything always goes wrong after that whatever I try and do and I lose pretty quickly every time...What am I doing wrong?

Right...This section of the game finally drove me mad and I had enough...so I employed my usual TW tactic for must-win battles I keep losing and ran all my troops to the Northwest corner of the map where there is a small hillock and you can recover from the run and already have the cavalry join you before the enemy arrive...Just turn on auto-defend, select the very edge of the map right in the corner and you can win most battles against incredible odds...It's by no means the most exciting or honourable way to win a battle, but it usually does the job...However, it was still quite a tough fight in this case...
