Default A crowd of screaming girls in a major battle? Seriously?

Ok, i`ve been giving this game a run. It is certainly more complex on the campaign map, but I had my biggest battle so far against some kind of Hunnish horde. Looking close I noticed there were a few female hunnish type in their army. Fine, CA, shove this ahistorical stuff at us, but I`m game...

Well my large army crashed into their large army and the fighting began. As I zoomed in closer to the throng, I noticed something was wrong with the sound... It didn`t sound like an army crashing and fighting but more like a huge crowd screaming girls at a pop festival. Where`s the sound of men at war? It`s been diluted it seems.

What the hell? Even battles sound completely stupid now.

I have no idea what you are talking about.
My game sounded fine when I played last night.

The only thing remotely close to that was when the Visigoths attack a town of mine and the citizens screamed and ran in panic and that did not sound like a girl pop concert... but I have no idea what types of girl pop concerts you attend so I don't know what to tell ya'

Are you running out of things to complain about ?

CA included a few women in the low tier barbarians levies and indeed (it's a migrating horde mind you, not a organised army or even warband at that tier), you can hear them scream too during battles. But all-men units screams like usual and starting with tier two there are no females left in the units...

Could you record this phenomena and post a video of it?

I haven't come across it yet but am interested to see/hear it.

Just play a battle with the first germanic melee or spear units, or the steppe tribemen, mounted or on foot and get close to the fight.
You should hear them during the battle and in a more obvious way when they celebrate after winning a fight.

Women had more important roles in the Germanic societies rather than fighting - they were in charge of the house, it's economy and keeping. Gender equality was very even amongst them but this didn't mean that the genders didn't have roles. Sending out the women to fight in organized armies seems weird, as they have other things to do rather than marching out on campaigns. In hordes? Yes, probably. The horde is the home. In garrison forces? Yes! Definitely! Shield-maidens and noblewomen fighting amongst the elites and nobles of the armies? Yes. But fighting in low-quality bands marching far-away from home to conquer new lands? No. The women traveled along with the armies, but they had more important duties back at camp which was not risking death.

Actually I noticed this in a 2v2 MP game. My ally was the Huns against Burgandians and I was the Sassanids facing WRE. As my army clashed and I occasionally zoomed in I could hear screaming women. It didn't distract me at the time and only after the match ended did I think about it and thought it strange.
    Kinda wierd.

Who cares. "Oh no there are some women in my T1 spear levy unit, all battles ruined!"

Probably going to come a "Daughters of Mars: Atilla version" DLC with some more elite women units. Get the pitchforks ready! Lagertha was a kitchen maid nothing more! Valkyries and Shieldmaidens are not indicative of anything! Viking women did not hunt and fish on a regular basis, they made sandwiches! The swords and spears found in viking women graves were actually fancy kitchen equipment!

Freydis, 8 months pregnant, then cut her own breast with a sword and screamed her war cry. And the indians were frightened of this sight and ran away.

    - Eirik Raudes saga.

    A screeching woman indeed.

    Anyway:
Weren't most of the sagas written down at least two hundred years after the actual Viking age? Should take their contents with a pinch of salt.

The latter source is very interesting, however.

I also had a couple battles where, if I dared to zoom in at location dense with female models, I would hear a lot of screeching sound... Its actually very realistically done, as most women have high pitched voice, but it almost completely drowned the male voice so that even in a 50% men 50% women unit I mostly heard the women. This coupled with historical problem of said presence of female, it can be doubly annoying.

This didnt happen all the time I was playing with mixed units, the sound can be a bit random.

A strange occurence in my frankish campaign was with that unit:

Which is strangely made of nearly 90% of female, god knows why (bagaudae were brigands, not feminists...).

Because they are extremely cheap fodder I use them massively in battles and it can end up looking like that in battle (screeching sound not included).
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Bonus funny: only men can wear caps/helmets it seems, women are always with their hair combed and all

I think women's voice need be somewhat "nerfed" and the mixed units balanced to have never more than 50% female models, except if we're talking about amazon units.

Why are this thread not about those stupid frankish shields instead? They bother me way more.

I just thought that noise was the lamentation of their women...

I've heard it too and it drives me nuts. There's more women represented in the rank and file of dark age armies in this game then currently serving in the military today. It's just silly.

There is a mod on here somewhere that removes female models from the armies, unholy screeching solved!

I think the author of the mod is stevehoos.

So you decided to send a bunch of girls against Attila, the scourge of god and the most feared man alive? Says more about you than the game!

The last thread like this got closed...

Scytho-Samartian tribes were in the huns. In Google Chrome control + f, search women... The horses link is there due to the fact that wealth/status among steppe tribes were generally counted in horses the better of which were quite often obtained through raids/battles.

Although I completely agree that the unit proportions are quite off, max it should be is 50% in the brigands. Although I am quite certain the brigands were either a mistake or a game quirk in which unit look/models are generated by random chance and not always a generic setup? Don't know, although that seems possible.
