Icon5 Battle time-limit: YES or NO?

Just purchased Attila and going to start my first campaign tomorrow finally with the addition of Radious Mod. Just want to know opinions of community based on experience of those who already played Attila, should I play with unlimited time or keep default time-limit of 60 minutes to keep the game play quite realistic and not abuse any possible AI flaws in any way?

my time is limited and some battles could take hours, without the option to save, so I always play with timer

But do you think it's ok if some open-fielded battle with outcome still not clear just finishes at some random moment?

You almost have to play with the timer on. Every once in while -if there are AI naval units involved- you will get major problems.
Shogun 2, no thanks I will stick with Kingdoms SS.

haven't seen it here but in older tw games some units could get stuck on parts of the terain, were they couldn't leave and not be killed either

Battle-timers are a must for TW games. There can be bugs that prevent battles from coming to a conclusion, and the only way to end them on your own part is to throw the battle away (either triggering the AI into actually moving by abandoning a defensive position or by outright quitting, both instances being something that gives an untrue loss to you). I've fought many battles over the years where I've had to just slap the timer on fast-forward and go do something else whilst I wait for the timer to run out because the AI's bugged out and isn't doing anything.

Playing without a battle timer is essentially like saying you don't expect for their to be bugs (in which case you're an idiot) or you're willing to run out of your city/abandon your position on a hill to attack the stationary enemy even though they're meant to be coming for you, and thus lose (see the previous brackets for my view on this)

Incase of bugs, I use time-limit in 60min. I remember when I had bugs and no time limit. There was no way to end this battle at all, so better have a time limit. You don't want be stuck in battlefield all time.

Funny, because I NEVER play with the Timer on. I simply can`t stand my battles ended suddenly because of an arbitrary timer. Especially in siege. I win or the AI wins by simply sharp combat to the death.

I was pleased to see no Timer is in Atilla plus lots of other things can be disabled as well. However my non walled sieges have ended so fast I doubt it`ll even reach an hour at this rate.

Ok got it, seems like some things never change in TW

I play on a forty minute timer because I've never had a battle get close to the hour mark when it's being heavily fought, or even close to the forty minute mark if both sides are really going for it. I like to have it on 40 minutes though so if push comes to shove I can stall for a draw. The game does apply a heavy morale penalty if you're outnumbered as the clock ticks down (have seen it go over -30 and counting sometimes) so you can't just kite an army with the remnants of an army, but I think it does fairly reflect the fact that if you've got a fast moving force in good order, and you destroy the enemy's ability to chase you down and munch you, then a draw/tactical win is a fair result.

If I was modding the game I'd probably opt for a longer time, lot of modders have a big thing for dragging battles out, but in the stock game they are pretty fast.

The same than you Monglor: 40mn timer and never got to it except in one siege defense battle where the AI had 4 full stack of reinforcing armies + 1 attacking.
20 minutes are the longest open field/sea battles, so to not get stucked into a glitch the 60 minutes mark is a bit far, 40 minutes seems the go to with actual morale/speed.

    Leave time limit "ON"

In case AI just decided "Yo, its tea time, we gonna go day off"
Its easy to make war with others, its never been easy when we need a peace.

My holy damn simple tactic; Strike First, Strike HARD and SHOW NO MERCY.

I don't use the time limit because a lot of the time I'm micro'ing horse archers to kite the enemy army all over the map on max speed, and it can take awhile before I commit to the final breaking charge.

Keep the 60min timer just in case an AI unit gets stuck and there's no way to end the battle. You shouldn't ever need more than 60 mins (unless you're playing very oddly, or have some insane mods on).

I use 40, though I started playing with 40 unit stacks so maybe 60 would be better for sieges.

60m here, it's pretty much always enough time and it's nice to have the timer just in case the AI goes full retard somewhere on the map
