Default Today's first patch has totally eliminated the movie and menu lag for me

Title almost says it all. In addition my in-game frame rate improved to the point that I could up all the graphic options to "Quality". with the exception of shadows on "performance". With all of that, I can get a 40 FPS average frame rate using the benchmark test.

My less than state of the art rig:

    I7--3820 3.6 Ghz
    16 GB ram
256 mb SSD for OS and games
GTX670 OC 4 Gb dedicated video Ram (will be ordering a new GTX980 soon)

No more bizarre work a rounds to start the game---Yipee!

Great for me too. No more lag for me because the game won't start.

Same here: no more annoying lag during videos. Something that should have been optimised properly at launch, mind you.

I ironically experienced the opposite. Pre-patch, I've never had issues with the intro or the menu background animation/video. Post patch, the video is still fine, but the main menu animation is jittery. I have SLI GTX 770s, so it generates over 1000+ fps during the main menu. When I cap it at 60fps, the stutter disappears and it's back to pre-patch smoothness.

That's weird. With just my single card, FRAPS shows me getting 1450 to 1500 FPS in the menu and no stutter. It could just be that by fixing one graphical problem with the game they created another with dual cards. If they ever started doing some public closed betas for the TW games a lot of this kind of stuff could be fixed long before release.

    Oh well.

40 fps on Quality with the rig you have ?

Should I expect more or less? The average is 40.7 FPS using the battle of Londinium benchmark. Of course it dips periodically, but rarely below 30.

    See the benchmark below.

While this may not be representative of overall gameplay, I haven't actually been playing, other than to mess around with the prologue for an hour or two. Because I was having to deal with the menu lag, I decided to wait on the first patch to solve the issue, so I set the game aside and got involved with a Shogun 2/FOTS campaign. Then when the patch got delayed, I started another Shogun 2 campaign. I should finish that up tomorrow and will take a crack at Attila.

I'm running the game on a 1920 X 1200 resolution 24 inch IPS panel monitor which gets much better color reproduction. I much prefer 16:10 ratio over the more common 16:9 or 1080P, which got forced on PC users by the makers of hi-def TV's.

Consequently, I don't feel the need for AA yet. I also don't use any of the special effects stuff like SSAO, Vignette, Distortion, etc. Here's my settings. Of course the game doesn't read my GPU memory correctly, but I've had that issue with both Shogun 2 and Rome 2.

    and here's my benchmark score

Not sure since yur rig is 3 or 4 times better than me and I'm getting 26 with proximity fading and distortion effect turned on. If I lower to peformance I can get 30+ and my rig is just i3-2100 with 260x.

I haven't played around that much with some of the settings, but I will tomorrow when I have more time. Right now I have a soft pillow and bed calling me.

The benchmark is not at all reliable, same as in Rome 2. Fire up the game and see for yourself.

I have a rather obsolete PC, but I still have around 30FPS all the time, with all settings on Quality at least (plus some on Max. quality) and VSync enabled, as I hate screen tearing.

I realized that the benchmark test in Rome 2 was not very indicative of total gameplay, but always thought that was because it was mostly just a field battle.

Siege battles with destructible walls, buildings, and the like have always been more taxing. I had hoped that since they used a siege assault setting for the Attila benchmark, it would be more representative of the graphically taxing parts of the game.

But, I will see for myself this evening.

    Cheers
