    Default [MOD] Warriors of Faith - Ancient Empires Attila Combat Overhaul


    Big thanks to the Total War Zone channel for making this great overview of our combat mod.

    Warriors of Faith is the name of the preview version of the battle design concept that will be featured in the full Ancient Empires modification. It's adapted to the vanilla setting in Attila and doesn't include the units that the full overhaul will feature once it's released. Due to being finished to this extent, the mod is available in the TWC workshop.

    The features include, but are not limited to:


    • Single hitpoint system for soldiers
    • Hundreds of special troop arrangements
    • Reworked UI and statistics presentation
    • In depth combat changes, including collateral damage
    • Closer deployment zones


    This is more of an outline, the actual changes are in many instances very detailed and could do with more detailed descriptions. We would very much like to hear what you all think of the battle changes. Additionally, if you have any ideas on what could be further improved, or if the scope of the battle changes should expand in new areas, we'd love to hear about this.

    I'll drop two download links below; one for the basic version, the other for the "extended" version which includes more detailed changes for fatigue and overhauls naval combat among other things, by Petellius. Enjoy!

    It's a loose term, but in context it refers to the mutual casualties two units will take upon collision. So, for example, charging two cavalry units into each other will render immediate casualties, as will a cavalry charge straight into infantry ranks. No one side is entirely immune to it, but armour primarily will to a certain extent shield troops from this type of damage. This isn't something exclusive to the mod - it exists in vanilla too, but only at the later stages of combat (when a unit's hit points are generally low). Here you'll see it at any stage of combat, as it should be, and there is less discrepancy between well-armoured troops and poorly armoured such (both are prone to casualties to some extent).

    Now that the patch for Attila has been released. Is there any conflict with your WoF extended version and the changes the patch brings to vanilla?

    Well, now that the new patch is out a number of changes have been applied. I don't know if I'm going to redo the startpos or not, it was such a pain. We'll see tomorrow, you can always try anyhow.

    It seems you've already found out the answer. I've had to redo a lot of parts with the mod, few things were left compatible. Fortunately very little remains now, but the update for the mod won't hit until tomorrow.

    The standard version has now been updated for compability with patch 1. Note that the startpos hasn't been changed, and only crossbowmen have changed unit size currently. It's going to take additional time to address the rest. The extended version will have a working link up in a moment.

    Hey, no sorry there is not. The old startpos wasn't compatible with the patch, so I just added the new one planning to do it all over. So right now there's nothing about it, feel free to remove it. It might be changed once all unit sizes are fixed again.

    Just wanted to point out, a few minor incompabilities with the latest patch have been sorted out and a new link is up. Unit sizes are now restored, but the startpos hasn't been fixed yet and therefore stripped out of the file - for the time being. Should make it more compatible with campaign overhauls, also.

    Startpos seems to be still in WOFE, or is the extended edition not yet compatible with 1patch?

    Should be updated today. It was done but Philip was offline when I had finished patching it.

    Hey guys just wondering what the reason for taking out the morale statistic was, while not terribly accurate i thought it was kind of cool seeing how close your guys were too routing (besides looking at the banners).

    Hey John, we thought it would be more interesting to only go by the bullet points in this case. The information about morale is still there, just far less precise than before, adding a sort of extra layer of depth. It's the uncertainity which makes it feel more authentic. Another reason was that the high morale did not fit in particularly well with the otherwise low statistics in the mod, so representing it as text wouldn't spoil the aesthetics. Under the hood, it's all the same though. If you want I could make a custom version for you, adding it back.

    Haha no thats not not at all necessary! That makes sense to me, i did have another question though. I'm playing a campaign as the Alamans and they get that damage buff against the Romans. I was wondering if you guys were going to make/ are able to make any balance changes to that buff, as i don't think its proportional to the melee damage stats in the rest of your mod.

    It's not compatible with the full Radious overhaul. If you could get your hands on a version of it without the battle changes, it would be however.
