sick of my generals defecting every turn...even though ihave a small empire now that is thriving....i just end up sending them to their deaths

The Problem is your leader and the people in your family. They need quite a lot of influence points to keep government control. With you generals becoming disloyal to will spent them to make them loyal but in the same turn you even lower your control even more. Important is that your family members are gathering influence points all the time and your other courtiers don't.

I built something that might help you a bit. It does not increase the loyality in general but might work as a workaround. What it does is that you get more loyality points for certain actions. If you adopt a Character it grants you now 5 loyality points, if you make him an heir he will gain 6 and any character you appoint in to an office will gain 4 loyality points. Marrying a daughter 3.
