Cant get mods to work please help

Hi, I have downloaded several mods and put them into data folder as instructed. When I launch game and go to mod manager I see the mods there and select enable out of date mods and check all the boxes for the mods i want to use but the game then stays on loading screen when launched. I have tried the upload button on each mod but it says I need the png file which did not come with the downloaded mods.
The only mod I have managed to get to work is Vikings units by Lazsko i think it was. This mod came with a png file in the download.
I also can't get GEMFX to work after days of trying, am i doing something wrong?
