What difficulty to play on struggling on very hard

Hi not played a campaign since befor the 1.0 release I played Rome and won on hard/normal battles
Been wanting to play barbarian faction, as Attila is unplayable for me with the super fast battles, I've been playing a Germanic tribe

I'm on turn 60 finally got 3 settlements but both are under siege buy big stacks, so I'm going to lose for sure both of them

I'm really struggling to keep over one full stack even then most are low level naked warriors
I'm fighting armoured spear men and swordsman

So is this new 1.0 DEI meant to be played on hard not very hard?
Just wanted some advice and help on this?

At first I must say that in DeI now the different difficulty levels finally deserve their names. So very hard is indeed very hard.
Battles I would always put to normal. Although hard is playable too.

The campaign difficulty is up to you. If you are expierenced already I suggest hard. You will be challenged but its fair and you won't get spammed by elite AI armies. Although you still should choose your enemies and wars carefully. Especially in the beginning and when playing a small faction.

Of course very hard is managable too. In general I suggest reconsidering your playstyle. Take it slow buddy, build up your eco first, make alliances and so on. DeI became harder with 1.0 and you probably can't steamroll your enemies as it was possible before.

Yeah it really is very hard I'll give DEI that
Maybe I'm to used to just attacking and not thinking about it as much
I'm going to try and stick it out got some allies on my side
It makes the game very different
Good to no it's playable, the game did get easy as Rome towards the end stream rolling every one

Also keep in mind that there are nations who simply have it harder

For example, you can start as Rome or Seleucids on VH, but for example doing the same as Macedon or Lugii might not end up well

Which difficulty you suggest for Parthians ? I want to start a new campaign with them.

im playing suebi im allied with other German factions, makes the game fun knowing i could lose for once lol,
love the way rome calls its legions to defend when they lose a italyan city

Start on normal or hard. Some nations require a bit of scouting at first, then proper gameplay.

In the longer run I don't see so much difference between hard and very hard. It is more difficult in the beginning. In my current vh campaign some AI nations declared war on me when I did not need war. Made me sweat some time, especially because an army of mine could not deal with an enemy army (Illyrians full of hoplites and elite swordmen) in the open fields.
