Default How to vanquish plague and tuberculosis?

    Hi,

I play the Geats and they have plague and tuberculosis...My armies are diminishing in numbers every turn and I can't seem to find a solution to eradicate these diseases. I already built some constructions that increase public hygiene and public order, but it's not enough and I feel stuck.

What can I do please? The plague has contaminated all of my two towns...

I got a smallpox outbreak in one of my campaigns and to be honest all that seems to work is waiting it out. But even that doesn't seem to actually be working very well. Disease comes and goes.

It's a testament to these weird times we live in that I'm not even sure if you're joking.

Sanitation is by far the most important aspect of city development after food.

On both Roman campaigns, priority one is to get those public bath and waterworks up to get the sanitation to positive, otherwise, disease will cripple the entire Empire.

Ok that's for the Romans with many cities. But what about Vikings in TW Attilah? You start with maybe one or two villages and soons after you start having plague and tubercolis that wipe out many of your people and you don't have researched enough technologies to built much wanted sanitation infrastructure.

    How to proceed then?

I haven't played as anything other than Roman so far.
But if you demolish some squalor generating buildings, you can improve the sanitation-squalor balance.

I keep all my provinces on positive or neutral balance and carefully plan out the new buildings so that the balance is maintained.

This has kept my Empire outbreak free completely.

Have you tried opening your borders to trade far and wide? Misery loves company, and on a more practical note, your enemies will have a harder time taking advantage of your weakened state if they're also sick.

Probably worth noting, while I haven't looked too much into the game's mechanics so far, logically speaking, sanitation should only work as prevention. It doesn't do much to stop a plague that you already caught.

I got sanitation in almost all regions even with 2 in one region it does not help to prevent any disease.

To watch different gameplay effects, I am currently running 3 campaigns parallel.

In my current Saxony campaign e.g. (200 turns in) I got now already for 100 turns disease for my faction. Its going from city to city and no sanitation and waiting will help to get a final end. After more than 100turns with disease you can believe me there is no fun with it, specially when time, rebuilding and strict quarantine for the cities will not help to prevent nor to stop it.

Damn..It must have been horrible to live at tha time..If there was only war, it wouldn't be much of a problem , but add to this: plague, tuberculosis, no vaccination or little and reserved to elite people, no hospitals, starvation, cold, etc...I doubt a 2015 European citizen would last even 2 weeks in such a condition...ANd would I add: no TWCenter.net too? :-) Seriously TWCenter has changed my life: the way I look at games, at things around me. I met a lot of interesting people on this forum...

You get disease if your sanitation is not up to par. That or catch it while laying sieges (scout ahead to see if the target province has sanitation problems). You can also catch disease from sick stacks passing by.

The main thing is sanitation: keep it in balance or surplus (green sanitation icon) and your troops will be healthy. If you hover your mouse over the sanitation icon, you'll see that it says 0% chance of an outbreak as long as your icon is in the green.

If you army catches a plague, put it stationary in camping mode until the disease goes away (it can take many turns). Sometimes it's better to disband and re-recruit the army. If you bring a sick army into your settlement which has good sanitation your settlement can still catch the plague. So, better keep sick army and associated characters out.

I am not sure if the game models spreading plagues by trade routes: as in, if you have a plague in one region whether it can spread easily to your healthy regions connected to the first by trade routes. That would be historically correct.

Yes, it can. Recently play as Picts: plague start from one region (west sea, port), spread to east sea port region. Then it spread to Geats region (as my trade partner).

    OH BLOODY HELL...

I'm playing as the WRE on Legendary and because of the Security issues most of my money has gone to public order, food, and the military...

Currently Northern Spain, Southern Gaul, ALL of Pannonia, and the XX Gemina is infected...

So do diseases ever go away? The Pannonian thing isn't that bad, because every Eastern Horde has to go through there and it's always lovely to see them slowly die of Consumption but as for Aquitinia, one of my few "core" stable provinces and a great producer of food...

    Is there any hope?
