Its 2015 - how do I run without a CD in?

Hi,
Am reinstalling my M2TW Gold edition - purchased in 2008 and much loved - onto my new gaming laptop after a three year break.
How can I enable it run without the CD in? Is there still a file about or how do I edit the right file etc

One work around would be to install the steam version which you can do with your key. I think this describes how to.

Got it to work and the nice thing is I got the Kingdoms DLC for free with M2TW (eventhough I do own Kingdoms but couldnt find a seperate key )

Install Steam. Register with Steam and then search for medieval ii total war in the steam store (I think) and click 'play' - then enter the code that came with your disk (boxed) game. At least that's how I vaguely remember how I started my download.

Is it necessary to uninstall the CD version first? And does the Steam version install in the default location or should I change it? Thanks.

I don't think so, I've put games from CDs onto steam before and had no issue whatsoever, just told it to add the game to my steam and it asked for the CD key and done, no longer needed the CD.

An add on usually doesn't require a key, but it will not install if you don't have a registered main installation.
