    Default Puppet States

Hi guys, i'm asking how the subjugate feature works in game, i am playing as the WRE and have subjugated 3 factions, 1 all the way in Scotland (didn't want to occupy) and 2 Germania. The Scottish faction and 1 of the German factions loved me (green smiley face) while one of them hated ma and declared war on me. I asked the others to join me but instead they declared war on me.

I read somewhere else on the forums that puppet states were the way to go but i don't think so. Can any1 prove/disprove it? What are your opinions and how do u manage the puppet states.

Personally, i feel that puppet states are great especially if the enemy faction's province is too far away or isolated and it will be a waste if you occupy or raze it.

I find them a double edged sword really. I love the idea of a puppet state (essentially a swathe of land you control indirectly), but due to the nature of my puppet states to end up declaring war on me, thus making my initial conquest void, I tend to just avoid them.

I guess what I need to do is make a mod that doesn't allow puppet states to declare war on their 'master', unrealistic of course, but a personal perference.

Im playing as the sassanids, (iv'e recolored them black because they look so much better )

All those little blue flags on the map are the thousand nations of the Persian empire.

I've never once had to bring an army back to the home provinces to crush a rebellion (i've had like 30 rebellions by now) but every time rebels show their head, my puppet states who are positioned beautifully around my country come and quell all rebellions.

They also contribute greatly, Makran, Mazun and Aksum have marched all the way from their home provinces and took Egypt and shared it between themselves. Atropine is helping me in Anatolia, 2 stacks from every Arab faction have gone forward and began to take north Africa, they've also attacked the western roman empire there and have marched on Rome itself !

The afrghids along with other Persian satraps are just patrolling the northen borders aswell as my home provinces.

MOST OF THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT ME USING THE WAR CO ORDINATION FEATURE BELIEVE IT OR NOT

    Feels so awesome hehe

You do know the sassanids gets a special +200% income from vassal/client/puppet state tribute.

Yeah client/puppet states are great and really useful. Not only do they provide you with tribute every turn they also provide you with a buffer zone of friendly land between you and neighbours AND they seem happy to patrol inside your borders for any hordes or rebels that are inside your land.

To avoid them rebelling against you just give them a state gift every now and again. Bribe them and you're golden!

I've had client states or even liberated factions betray me due to great power and/or cultural enmity, liberation is my preferred option to client states. I'd rather have a sovereign who is engendered than a puppet who could turn on a whim. Strategy doesn't plan for opportune seizures. This was a re-occurring mid-late game problem in Rome 2. An isolated client will feel the need to use it's armies if it's landlocked in your territory. On legendary it can be a game-breaker.

You can only subjugate a faction (by force) if they have only 1 settlement left.
Satrapies, puppet states are better, because they follow your diplomacy, if you declare war, they too declare war, if you make peace, they will make too.
Client states are... problematic, they are free as far as diplomacy goes, so they can decide to go to war with you or not. If someone declares war upon them you have to enter the war on your client state's side. I usually dont request help from them when anyone attacks me, if i want them to join, i will pay them to join my war. Sometimes it is really good to have a neutral buffer state between you and your enemy. But it gets problematic if they declare war on another client state or one of your allies, that can cause big problems, and the more client states you have, this is getting more and more likely to happen.
(Currently im playing as the Huns, I only have 2 tribunary states, and they are good if I want to stay in one place in realtively safety.)

As Danes I conquered the Varanians (at Rugion) early on but since I was involved in many wars I knew that I wouldn't be able to hold my new acquisition, so it made sense to make them a tributary tribe rather than letting an enemy occupy the land, and I figured I could turn a once enemy into a friend rather than having to track down their remaining armies now roving as hordes.

Unfortunately the Varanians refused to trade with their new overlord, even when I would offer them what I considered to be reasonable payment incentives. So I felt that was kind of ridiculous, tributary states should be forced to accept your trade agreements, or other diplomatic demands.

Yeah it's pure stupidity that the puppeted states still hate you and usually declare war on you when they get a chance. This mod helps quite a lot but hopefully CA fixes this. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-Happy-Clients

    LMAO
Without the mod, Macedon and ERE had 300+ relation with me (WRE) as my puppet states and they declared war on me when I entered the war against the faction that declared war on one of my puppets Egypt.

    This game needs a patch.
