Easy...train tons of peasant type troops and send them to the front line. Heh heh heh. It's an easy way of getting rid of squalor.

Get rid of squalor? Why don't you just cheat instead since thats what getting rid of squalor is.
So adding more provinces to the game is cheating? You get more provinces/have more rebel provinces to conquer.Originally Posted by mirage41

Squalor is there to simulate population discontent as as settlement overpopulates. Squalor along with religion are key elements to making the empire management challenging and its fun to have to worry about rebellions and settlement loyalty - otherwise it wouldn't be realistc.
Sorry I didn't mean to offend you, I just think its takes away from realism. But your probably won't be able to mod out squalor since its a hardcoded part of the game mechanics. What you might be able to do is go into the game files and reduce the effects of squalor to the point of making it non-existent. But you'll need to ask mods how to do that (ie which files, which lines) and most importantly you'll need to be able to unpack the files from the data.pack.
Well, it WAS hardcoded

This includes the ability to modify the impact of squalor, distance from capital and population thresholds for the different city levels.
Well, squalor is good, but when I have -115% unrest from squalor, it makes me want to start another campaign...
recruitment doesn't lower pop anymore i dont think.Originally Posted by Kroz

it makes alot more sense have a pool of able bodied men to recruit from instead of every single person in the settlement being an apparently able bodied male o recruit. this way it acts more realistic in that everyone isnt solider material and females aren't drafted.Originally Posted by Pjoo

It still should consume population, cause if there is settlement that has 5000 people and 1000 can be recruited, settlement should have 4000 people if those 1000 are recruited?Originally Posted by ProudNerd
You can get rid of squalor by killing them off in battles. This is the easiest way...and it's fun watching them all die.

^^^ the only problem with that is you'll run out of money quickly with no taxes from a decent sized population. Squalor is VERY easy to get rid of for me, simply build as many buildings which increase standard of living as possible. Also, you can cancel out squalor with temples etc.
You are true...but it's still fun to do. I didn't find much problem though with this in RTW. I'd do it and my income was still enough to propel me up above the 100,000 mark.

Another way to regulate the increase of Squalor is to keep the expansion rate of cities and towns low. The lower the population growth...the less squalor you end up with in the end.
