I just realized that I have the same issue with boats. My poor Viking Admiral is leading a fleet that contains Dragonships, Liburnians, and a Dromonarion and he's in a little Snekkja Longship. Would it be possible (and not an inconvenience) to make an additional mod with an upgrade path for the admirals? Or is there something in the tech tree that I'm not seeing that already does it? I did try to look at everything, but with the incomplete Encylopaedia, you guys looking into the files can see more than we can.
I looked into it, but I don't know a lot about those naval units.
What would you suggest? I noticed that appart from the Alans all playable factions have the drekkar units, would you suggest them for commanders? They have a late upgrade at the end of the tech tree.
What alternatives would you suggest for Roman & eastern?
Yeah, for the Barbarians I'd go with the Drekkar Dragonship Marauders, though the Danes could get something better, the Drekkar Dragonship - Chosen Norse Marauders or Elite Norse Marauders. On the other hand, those would be terrible bodyguards, they have bad defenses compared to the regular Marauders.
For the Romans I'd go with the Liburnian Warship - Roman Heavy Marines, and for Sassanids the Dromon Warship - Eastern Boatmen. Those are only guesses looking at the Encyclopaedia, I pretty much always play Barbarians. I like to rewrite history.![]()
The Huns get a raft.![]()
Well, apparently everything is already as you like it in vanilla. My mod doesn't change anything for it. All you need to do is replace your admiral and you will get your drekkar
Apparently they gave starting units cheaper bodyguards, probably so that they wouldn't have money issues...

Oh, interesting! Ok I'll send him home for a quick break and bring him back and see what happens.
Seems to work quite okay, right?
Took me a while but finally gave him a break after he took New Carthage, and it worked, now he's in a Drekkar dragonship. Weird that it never offered to let me pay to upgrade him. Though its possible he's been away at sea in hostile waters since I researched whatever tech needed to do it.
No, you can already do it in the beginning of the game. You can try it starting a new game. I don't know if CA did this intentionally. A new unit costs a lot and there is no way back. Having a cheaper option is not bad, but I don't mind it this way. Good enough. But no upgrades are possible until maybe in the end of the skill tree, not sure.

nvm it works
Viking plz update your mods for the new update, cant play a game without this mod lol
This mod works fine with the new patch.
Are the Saxon generals horse units supposed to be light raiders? Is this working correctly? Do you get other options for cavalry units for your general when you research/upgrade buildings? Seems like a poor unit for my king.

Shogun 2, no thanks I will stick with Kingdoms SS.
So which version do you guys use? Wich one would you call the "normal" version?
Try v.4. It adds a good horse bodyguard unit from the beginning, no upgrades later on. I was considering of removing the other versions, but I suppose some people would like them as well so...
So in v.4 you will have always the following 2 choices of bodyguards:
-the vanilla one that uses upgrades and eventually becomes a horse unit (Viking forefathers & Saxons excepted)
-the added horse bodyguard unit that remains the same throughout the entire campaign
(Eastern & Nomadic factions already have horse bodyguards from the beginning, so they don't get additional bodyguard options)

Will the enemy have this as well? Otherwise it seems a little OP
Ha, well, the AI uses a mix... Sometimes it decides to take cavalry generals, sometimes not. The player can choose - and pay for it, of corpse
This counts for all versions.
You will always have AI generals with infantry units at the beginning of the game unless you edit the startpos.esf file, which means you will have a lot of work every time there is new DLC coming out... even if you don't buy it.
