Early upgradeable cavalry bodyguard alternative (for roman & germanic, & celtc factions)
Content
Adds bodyguards the same way as my other mod, for all factions with the Slavic nations as an exception.
Units that are available to your commanders
- Noble Germanic Horsemen
- Nordic Horse Lords
- Palatina Cavalry
- Mormaer Cavalry
Compatibility
Compatible with all mods
Savegame compatible

just tested works! Wondering if you could put some better cav units for rome in particular, equites dalmate are baby light cav hardly worthy of a roman general ;P

version 2 has an issue for rome, instead of scholae we got elite palantinae guards (spearmen)

Is there a way to change an existing General's bodyguard, or do we have to replace him and then bring him back?

You will have to bring him back.
Sorry JVR, fixed now. I'll make some other packs as well, one of them similar as v.2 with upgradeable Scholae Palatinae for the Eastern Roman Empire.
Another one I plan to make is one that gives decent cav for all these factions immediately without any later upgrades, but this will be a different process.

Yes, I made it available for all similar cultures. Did not seem fair to only let the playable factions use them. Thanks for your feedback, I appreciate it. I have also noticed that the AI uses them (seemingly) randomly just like in Rome II. I like that as well. That is why I made v.4 to make them stronger immediately without upgrades. Only garrison units use the same old unit, but that is fine to me.
@JVR: I checked and for the Western Roman Empire the Scholae Palatinae are available. Check again if it does not work, please. A downside of v.4. is that I had to create new identical units due to a restriction concerning upgrades, which means I had to use additions for more files than in the other cases. Depending on how some units size mods are made the number of the bodyguard unit will change also or not. I had to make a separate version for my own unit size mod where the added units will have 100 men. So there is v.5.

FYI, though I should have realized this from the beginning by the description, if you use v4 in a game and then try to go back to v2, you will crash. You have to stick with v4 or start a new game.
Is there any chance that v4 is causing my regular units (non cav, non general) to suddenly have a max of 56 soldiers instead of 80? I can't quite figure out how this happened.

Hmmm... 56 is the amount of minimum unit size settings... Did you change the settings by any chance? Even then it shouldn't change in the middle of the game. Sorry for this, this is a very early mod and it is not tested much. Should not happen in the middle of a game anyway...
Don't think this is related, but it can.
v4 and v5. merely add things... So the crash is logical, as the units are not existing anymore and even though you don't have them, other factions may have them.
V1-3 should not cause any crashes, as they just makes temporary links between turns.
Please keep me informed, also info of other users is appreciated.
