A mod where all units begin on foot in the campaign... This means that when you recruit units they aren't freshly put on horses and sent into battle... Horseback riding is a skill and using a weapon while doing so is very difficult and requires years of practice of be effective.
This would greatly add depth to the campaign and give mercenaries that well needed role of experienced pop unit... rather then the army you started with and watched grow as you step over your enemies.
Example: you have a few archers... by building a farmstead you can upgrade said archers to horse archers. the same for any weapon category type unit.
skirmishers=>horsejav
swordsman=>horseman
spearman=>spearhorse
pike=>halberd/lancehorse
Wardogs=> should be a counter to horseunits en masse. They should outnumber them in 2:1 and have a massive bonus all the while retaining their affordability giving you a chance against that hunnic horde and the like.
ideas?
This would also give axemen a more unique battlefield role... As it is right now swords and axes are basically more or less the same type of unit when it comes to the rock>paper>scissor type mechanics we are used to in tw. (sword>spear>horse>axe)
Think of how much fun you would have in a campaign knowing you actually raised your troops from they're infantry days down to their elite status gained through experience and veterancy...
At any rate all units would be able to dismount as such giving them back their original stats prior to upgrading to horseunit.
It is my theory that this mechanic will add realism and logic to the game... (of course scripting the ai is probably a dream)
Mods like refill ammo from magmar really change the way the game is played adding depth to the field where it was sorely missing.
I know this is possible but I need your feedback. There's a plethora of questions and problems that could arise so i'm treading slowly.
