Default Rome, Surviving the End- request

It will be worth thinking to split the 2 roman factions further into roman Provincial and Imperial Factions.
The 2 Imperial Factions (Mediolanum and Constantinople) will each have 1 or 2 provinces. The other Roman provinces will be divided between Provincial roman Factions that are Puppet or Tributary States or Vassals of the Imperial Factions. This will drastically cut down the watch your settlement get sacked nature of Attila while still have you spread out your forces defending your many vassal states.

Also this frees up for the possibility to play as roman Provencal Factions. Such as Roman Britain and fight desperately with your 2 local legions along the Imperial Legion that is trapped In Britain. Imperial Legions could start out spread through the Provinces, forcing the player to work with Provincial Roman Legions (AI)

imagine playing as a Faction such as Roman Provencal Hispania, trying to fend off invaders in Spain while reinforcing France with your ragg-tagged Iberian Legions. Suddenly you get the message WRE's Imperial Faction has been destroyed (hence fall of the Eagle) all provincial factions under WRE goes free for all, have fun.

BAM now the gameplay shifts from preventing the end to surviving the end.

Anyway, I'm still working on the Idea but if implemented correctly, will be amazing.

This is possibly the best idea I have seen yet I would. Love to start work on this for you

    Interesting concept.

I feel it would make the game too easy for the romans. Dividing up the empire like that will generally make it too easy to manage and defend, especially as individual factions get further income. And also with the way food works, it would mean Rome wouldn't be able to depend on other provinces for it's food supply.

I was thinking of making it challenging for barbarian factions more so then easier for Rome

@damien007 Provincial Roman Factions could be spamming 2 or 3 provinces each, with a faction such as Roman Hispania owning all 4 provinces of Ibera thus balancing their food. Britannia would own all of Britain, and start up buildings need to be tweaked for balance. In addition to at, Roman provincial factions could also have negative traits regarding trade tariff and tax. Military wise Provencal Factions could be given units that are sub par or same units but higher maintenance.

WRE imperial faction could start with Italy and aquitania, thus balancing food and economy and give player a reason to defend AI vassals (Roman Provencial Factions would be serving as buffers and battle grounds.)

Cool idea. Allows me to play as a Roman culture faction but with the 'small beginnings' type gameplay I prefer.

Interesting idea, you could also possibly decide to rebel go it alone or take your army and make a play for the purple?

Really interesting idea, i would love to play aas britain but still be allied to the other roman factions, it makes a lot of sense the segregation of the provinces.

I love this idea. The only thing to do to make the game remain challenging for the Romans would be to find a way to keep the corruption high. Playing as Roman Britain would be amazing!

Well, if anyone with sufficient modding skills (I don't) is willing to take this up, it would be awesome.

My concept is to be able to play as Romans fighting in one front, making the first 20 turns for Rome actually being fun, instead of watching settlements you don't care about get sacked.
This will also make the Imperial factions easier since you don't have all that much land to manage. Yet, this still makes Imperial Factions hard due to a trait such as "Provincial Politics" that cuts down Imperial Replenishing rate in allied lands. Provincial roman factions will also have negative diplomacy factors with their imperials, hence simulating the uneasy politics of the late WRE. But all this will be mediated by having Provincial factions be at war with some hordes at the start of the game, so the player can truly choose which province to save > and still simulate the number of legion Rome had.

    Game play Experience:

Play as Imperial Roman Faction: hold scattered lands and deal with Vassal Provinces that dislike/have different religion than you. Fight in the frontier while some vassals rebel, choose which provincial Factions to save/fortify, watch the rest get torn and brace for the hordes. But hey, maybe Roman Britain can survive without the legions, right?

Play as provincial Faction: HAHA what now, I am care free Hispania away from the front, yeah couple of turns ago I saw Roman Gaul die but w/e I have my 3 Iberia Legions keeping my quite big lands happy and peaceful. Oh wait WRE died, Hordes are streaming in from Gaul while I lose all my treaties with other surviving roman provinces. No more friendly visits from the African Legions, instead their newly independent faction is eyeing your land. Will you survive? or just be torn apart in the power vacuum. A good mid game for a Provencal Faction is to be spamming a solid land mass with a few reliable Provincial faction as puppets or allies.

It would be amazing, to actually invest, build up, and defend the day that Italy fall. Not as WRE armies (you can if you really want to, Play imperial Faction, don't care about your lands and serve as true defenders of your subjects, living off levy from provincial factions and their tribute, Role play as the Roman core legions.) But as Scattered Peoples of an once great empire. Can you change the fate of Britain? Will Soissons amount to more than a glare in history? Or will the Imperial Government hold firm. It's up to you.
