Hi,
I noticed that in Total War the player can't switch from an already engaged 3D battle to auto resolution of battle back to the strategy map.
For example, you start a bloody battle but in the course of battle you don't want to command your troops anymore for a specific reason (it could be that you are losin and think that the AI will do a better job at finishing the battle and avoiding too many losses). You want to let the computer (AI) finish the battle automatically. That's not possible currently.
I understand that this would be difficult to implement technically because of all the mathematical calculations needed (position of the troops when clicking on "Auto-resolution of battle by computer", casualties, tactical situation, etc).
But sometimes I feel that the computer is better at winning battles than the human player. Is there a study about the effectiveness of automatic AI battle resolution versus realt-ime 3D battles played by human player for the same army configurations?
On a second point:The Agressive, Equilibrate, Defensive battle modes are good innovations but could be refined too in many ways I think.
For example the player could choose the melee formations and let the AI do the rest. I am talking about levels of refinement in the category modes (again, Agressive, Equilibrate, Defensive).
I would recommend adding a fourth "Reckless" battle mode, which is even more agressive than "AGressive mode". Barbarians and vikings were good at that and this mode could significantly change the course of a battle.
On the other end of the spectrum, the "Retreat" mode is not available anymore during a 3D battle or am I mistaken? Where is the button on the interface please to retreat a whole army quickly?
