Thread: Roman infantry buff

    Default Roman infantry buff

I've seen a few complaints about the poor offensive abilities of some of the early roman melee infantry, so I've increased some of the units melee attack attribute slightly. It won't make them killing machines, but they will kill a few more than before.

Could you please post what you changed, not to sound ungrateful, I have been complaining. But I do not want an unfair advantage, well not too unfair- already got my great generalship

Sure thing. It was just minor boosts to melee attack, which increases their chance to hit.

Cohors - increased melee attack by 5
Eastern Armored Legio - increased melee attack by 5
Exploratores - increased melee attack by 6
Herculiani Seniores - increased melee attack by 4
Legio - increased melee attack by 4
Legio Comitatenses - increased melee attack by 5
Numeroi - increased melee attack by 4
Palatina Guards- increased melee attack by 5
Praeventores - increased melee attack by 5

It is extremely easy to change these values with pfm if you want, just open the pack in pfm and change the value in the melee_attack column.

You need to download PFM, it is the only way to mod until the official tools are released next month. It allows you to open the .pack files inside the data folder of Attila. Its not very user friendly though, so I've included a unit creation tutorial. Most Rome 2 tutorials will apply to Attila, the structure is mostly the same. You do not edit the official .pack files, you extract the tables you want to edit into your own mod and edit from there. The way I learned to mod with PFM is by looking at other peoples work. Find something like what you want to do and look at the tables and values that they have changed. From there you get a good idea of how to change what you want to change to make your own mod.

In my opinion unit appearance editing is far easier with the official tools rather than PFM. It comes with a variant editor that actually shows you what the gear looks like on your soldiers. Its probably worth waiting on that.

Here is the first Attila reskin I came across. If you open it with PFM you can see what tables he needed to change the unit appearances.

    He edited the following tables

animations - not necessary for appearance, ignore
faction_uniform_colours - changes the color of units for a specific faction. Some units have their own unique color and won't be affected by this.
unit_variants - this is where you can choose the variant that applies to the soldier type. A variant is their appearance. You can also change the unit card here, if you make a new one.
variantmodels and variantmeshdefinitions - both located in the model.pack(s) rather than the usual data.pack. This is where you alter the appearance of a variant. Tutorials above.
