Thread: Third Century Romans

  1. #1

    Default Third Century Romans

I am considering creating a Third century roman unit pack. I would like to see if their is any interest in this, as well as solicit any modders interested in collaborating on this project.

If you are unfamiliar with my work here is a link to my current project

Sounds like a great idea. Would be good to see some more mods focus on this period, One of the most exciting and turbulent times during the Roman Empire. Good luck!

I think when someone makes a campaign scenario your work on the third century legions will be blessing. Till then why not fourth and fifth century legions very much needed.

last one bit of a wiki but its just for the shield images

There is already a big overhaul about late empire called Constantine rise of Christianity and a brand new game called Attila so I guess for late empire this is enough. Only century still uncovered is third century and late second, basically one of the most troubled and interesting time period with deep changes. We would definitely need a overhaul mod with dedicated units for it.

He is not suggesting making an overhaul, just units. Which is why I said until someone comes up with a scenario suitable for third century units, why not make units for Attila? Which distinctly lacks authentic looking Romans.

After seeing these pics...I finally realized why units in Attila look kind of ugly now. Because they lack leg guards...units look so much better with leg guards...can they be added onto the existing units when doing this mods?

A whole lot of posts deleted so now this thread can go back to it's original topic, which is the discussion of this mod.
    Several things should be noted:
-When using other people's work, you are to give credits.
-Osprey images are copyright-protected and hence not allowed to be posted.
-We can lose the hostile/agitated attutide.

    Thread reopened.

    Edit:
    Extra note:
Do not make a second thread, threads merged.

That is fair enough then You must after all enjoy making your art. What you need is a suitable late Antonine/Severan into the third century scenario to display the units.
The current Attila map is fantastic for this period, would have to loose all the churches.
Return the Parthians - at least until Severus Alexander ( So perhaps Fars could be a break away rebellious satrap of Parthia?)
Reunited Roman Empire without Christianity (or Christianity minority) Legions and Auxiliaries as late 2nd, early 3rd C with some reforms.
Germans the majority of confederations Marcomanni, Goths, Quadi can stay others would have to change.
Nomads especially Huns, Bulgars, do not belong in this time frame.
But would make an amazing campaign, with the family trees adds to the drama

well i can add anything but Attila units are a later representations ROme ,so it unlikely i would be using attila models.

Like Basileos Antiokhos Euergetes I hope for a IV/V centuries roman reskin but it would certainly become a chore to you if you don't like the late roman appearance.

I have not yet Attila but I am fairly interested in a third century reskin. My interest in this period is growing theses day. I am contemplating the idea to make a campaign mod focused on the Third Century. Maybe something starting from Alexander Severus or Valerian/Gallienus. But I admit the amount of work to do is frightening me.
