Where does the money go?

Well i started playing the English campaing. I got a few settlements and they were all giving me money. But every turn i spent more money than i made eventhough i didnt build nothing or recruit any units. Does anyone have any idea where my money is going?

Upkeep, corruption (not vey likely).
You can just look at the Finance Overview, or whatever it's called.

Too many military units?
If you are not planning to use them,disband useless units.
Check your tax rates,income,and how much you are spending each turn.
Money comes from : mines,farms,markets,ports,roads,sea trade buildings,merchants.

Thx guys. But now i have one more question

- How do i use merchants and popes? I know know that i can kill an enemy pope with mine but is that all he is good for? And what about the crusades? How does that work? A lot of questions so thx for anything

theres only one pope in the game you know.

Just a little question. In some settlements I can't control the taxes although I have a general in it and disabled the option "auto manage taxes". Is this like it was ment to be or is it a bug?

Does my merchant automatically get me money per turn? Where does he have to ''stand''?

you have to send him to capitalize on a resource... the more distant/exotic it is the more money he can make for you... that is why finding the americas is gonna be bank!

That is because that settlement is a castle. You can only control tax rates in cities.

MTW2 is more like the original in terms of the economy, i.e. the incomes shown on your cities is the money they are actually making...yet military expenditure is not shown in terms of this value. Its the reason they've made the finance overview a big button, instead of a small tab in the faction overview scroll. You really have to consult it

to "capitolize" on a resource you simple right click on it... just like assissinating or spying with other types of agents... i dont have the game, but from the manual and others accounts thats what i gather...
