One thing I can advice to those who can't find a way for GEM to work - install latest Visual C++. I did clean install of Win8.1 yesterday. GEM was crashing the game during start up. Then I installed ALL versions of Visual C and Attila+GEM launched with no problems

am i correct in saying you dont need anything besides the atilla standalone GEM installed into the games directory to get this to work? and the latest c++?

You should have downloaded the .exe file then it will put them in the right place for you.

In other words, a whole new system install so surely everything should be up to date?

I'm sorry you guys are having such a hard time getting GEM to work I'm not an expert by any means so I don't think I can help ya'll.
Here is a screen shot of my settings though if that might help...

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Everything looks beautiful but I also cannot use the UI Bypass without some pretty bad shuttering

Thanks for creating this great tool!
I, like some others, can't figure out how to use it. Just run it from the attila folder correct? I try running it and having attila in windowed mode and turn on and off effects and it doesnt seem to change anything. We dont need to run the game at your exact specs in order for these effects to materialize i assume?

I'm not sure how everyone is having issues getting it to work, It should have 0 difference on it, but just download the GEM file and extract it to some random folder on your desktop NewFolder1 or whatever, and just copy paste/drag the files into your Attila folder that way. It does the same thing as the extracting install but the fact people cant get it working must mean something very basic is going wrong. That and of course make sure you have all the new and up to date Net Framework and c++ vcredists stuff.

There is a link to a list of all the ones you ideally should have in some GEM thread.

No lucifers settings are irrelevant to get it working, though I would suggest personally to have AA off, and use the AA on the tool. Its less blurry then MLAA, and MSAA is too much of a resource hog anyways.

well i just verified that my install of both c++ and .net was up to date direct from ms. I actually by default extracted the files to a gem folder within attila then copied them into the main one as well. So not sure what else would be needed. Thanks for the tip re AA.

I'm running windows 8.1 as well. how do you get the event log?

Its weird that there are other people as well that do not have a log. I have tried extracting the files to a seperate folder as some people suggested but it is the same files that are extracted even if its directly pointed to attila. I just want to confirm people are installing it to steam/common/ Attila Total War. Also I have this mod installed for Rome 2 and it installed perfectly and get no problems with GEM running in Rome 2. So I do not think its a case of me pointing it at the wrong folder. I also do not have a log but my Rome 2 gem does.

Yeah installed in the right directory. I did have it installed for Rome 2 but could also not get it to work with that either.

The read me is found in the atilla main directory after a first run

following Mr. Freud's suggestion of installing the latest Visual C++ helped me to get it working for Attila. i downloaded and installed both the x86 and x64 versions from the Microsoft page. now it runs like hot cakes
