    Default Crusade army questions...

The pope in my campaign has announced a crusade on Antioch, I have 9 turns for it and I don't understand the mission...
is it my duty to take the city or only to train large army until those 9 turns end?
does the crusade army need to include special units like priests or a cardinal among it's agents?
once I've trained it, I must send it towards the mentioned city before the 9 turns pass?

Heh, I have excactly the same problem, and was just gonna post here! Playing as France, the Council of Nobles said I should take over Zaragoga, so just when I started sieging it, the pope called for a crusade to Antioch in 9 turns. Now the next turn Spain and two other factions join it, but how can I join it? Must I travel there in 9 turns? Not gonna happen, Milan just declared war on me, sank my 2 reward cogs and blockaded my port in Marseille.

You must have at least one crusader army in 9 turns.

You must have an army with 8 units in it, select the army, go to the army details scroll and there is a join crusade button. After that you can then recruit crusader units in the merc recruitment scroll and you get more movement points.

that's correct and according to the manual if another christian nation captures the city before ur army does u still get rewards for joining the crusade...

    OK, thanks!

Must they have a general too? And can they be just peasants, I have a large army sieging Zaragoga (my spy just opened the gates so I'll let them rest there for one turn and raise the public order before joining).

Just try and capture it before any other faction does, otherwise your army will have marched all that way for nothing and will have a very hard time getting back into friendly territory.

    Yeah he's right
I had worsen relations with other factions simply because I joined the crusade to late and when he was over I was in HRE territory or something, and it was traspassing.

If you create a crusader army while the crusade is going on (therefore "joining" the crusade), you score some reputation points with the Pope.

If you actually TAKE the city targeted by the crusade before any other crusader armies, you get some major points with the Pope, and your commanding general gets some really big boosts to his reputation and stats.

The trick is to get over there as quickly as possible. The longer your trip drags out, the more of a risk you have of desertion by your troops as they grow weary of the crusade and begin to abandon your army.

the 9 turns is the amount of time you have to join an army to the crusade, and yes it can be made up of peasants.

In fact, if you don't think you are really going to be first to capture the city it is probably a good idea to use peasants, as this will still give you benefits with the Pope whereas ignoring the call to arms has penalties.

Thanks Cem, I was able to catch Antiohc (the Hungarians appeared just as I had unloaded my troops :wink, but unfortunately when I had captured the city, I put the tax rate to low, and next turn the order detoriated to 70%, and I couldn't do anything to raise it (full stacked army). So next turn it revolts, public order dropped to 30% and the city revolts and gets almost full stacked of good units! I can't believe it, first they have crappy units which I defeat, then when they revolt they get decent units!

I'm sieging it again now, won't bother to assault it since it could be a tie (pretty meny militia units for me). Hope it'll turn out well!

I haven't exprienced a Jihad personally but I have seen it in game.
The Mongols called for a Jihad against Constantinople and the Jihad was success because the mongols took it.
At the same time the pope called for a crusade on Jerusalem which is in the Mongols hands as well.
All catholics except me(As the danes you are too far away IMO to start getting involved down there) joined the crusade and each sent a full stack army against them.
All got defeated by the mongols .
In the end the pope declared the crusade a failure and was very disappointed in all of us.

Looks like they are because the jihad was completed when they took Constantinople.
