    Default DVD Problem

Okay, so I was attempting to watch a DVD on my computer, and yes I have a DVD drive and it has worked before. Anyways, I tried to play the movie and I got this message “Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings. “I followed the advice of the error and it still didn't work. Does anyone know what’s wrong, is it my DVD drive... Strangely enough my DVD drive plays video games that are DVD's.....I'm rather confused by this whole thing.

    Thanks,

    Rob

It could be the DVD format, some drives don't play DVD-R for example, though the fact it recognises the disc kind of makes this unlikely.

Perhaps it's a codec issue within media player(again unlikely given the error message, but worth double checking).

Or perhaps the DVD is actually encoded at a higher resolution than what your screen is set at, though I have no idea if that could cause it, and find it unlikely (But maybe try and force it to 800x600 for example).

Or the DVD just doesn't work....have you tried it on another computer or in a dvd driver, or checked the files are all in order (given the way DVD's usually work with sound and movie files stored seperately).

You could try a different program, like VLC media player or media player classic, both should come with the software required to play most dvds

Thanks Spiff, I dowloaded VLC and it works!! I'm think its a software related problem with media player because it played Rome the series before and doesn't anymore....Anyways, thanks very much!
