Default How do you play M2TW?

How do you play your campaign? When you lose a HUGE battle, which cripples your military and economy, do you load your previous saved game and try to win that battle, or do you accept your defeat and try to rebuild and continue on your campaign? When I first got RTW, I would load my previous saved game, but I found that to be boring, now I just accept my defeat and try to rebuild. I will do this with M2TW, whatever happens, I will continue on.

Although I'm still waiting for my copy I would never reload from my last save as it practically cheating. Gets boring anyways. Plus I'm gunna have much more fun with the roleplaying aspect of this TW game, I just have a feeling it will immerse me in the era.

I never reloaded because I lost.

No, I never reload. If I lose it makes the game more interesting. I would enjoy losing a campaign (a possibility at the moment) more than I would a straightforward victory.

I never reload either. If I lose, I lose. And in M2TW, I have lost a lot more batles than in RTW. Damn you, Frenchmen!

 I'm telling you, I rather have the "real" (as in real-life) French. In M2TW, they are being such a pain in the behind that I'm starting to feel queasy.

It depends. If the loss was only an inconvenience I would reload. I mean, if Gaul only has one province left, and you can pump out like one or two armies a turn, what does it matter if you lose one in a freak battle? Gaul is still going to lose, so I'd reload to shorten the campaign length. If it was a close war, I wouldn't reload, though. By allowing the enemy to keep major advances against you, you are forced to dig out your strategic thinking. That is where the TW games really shine through and become fun.

Just glory on and hopefully learn from your mistakes. Don't think I'll ever reload - just fight to the death (which looks very likely in my first campaign) then start a new one.

    My current game:

I invaded Nottingham as Scotland with two nobles (out of four), all my mailed knights from my empire, and most of my highlanders. That was an army of roughly 1000 troops. I fought against the English army of around 1200 and got defeated. They took heavy losses too (around 1000). I played on, and about 15 turns later I now have control of the entirety of the British Isles! Setbacks make things more fun, unless it's something stupid that you yourself have done like letting a city revolt, and thinking, "Yeah this will be easy" and are shocked to find a full stack of rebels there when you attack... that's what I did and was not impressed.

In my current campaign as the Turks, I'm -8k in debt and at war with Byzantine. I won't reload and I will fight it until I lose my last city, which will be quite soon!

Only dream I ever have. Is it the surface of the Sun?
