    Default Removing the Pope

    From the good news front:

Removing the Pope and all that comes with, the whole shebang, appears to work like a charm in M2: just remove the papal states from descr_strat, and make sure there are no regions assigned to them in descr_regions, and that's all. UI is totally clean, and played quite a few turns - not a sign anywhere. Gosh, you do get a lot of messages as only faction on the map - biggest, richest, etc etc.

Awesome, now we need to see how to change the religion, like adding more Christian factions to see how the scroll looks. so does this mean you can conquer the pope and he will disappear.

Well, you can leave him out altogether, but as far as I heard and read: once in the game, he will seek asylum with the next catholic state when driven from the papal states, and get it too.

So that would probably mean you would have to pretty much make sure there ARE not catholic states to escape to before you try that.

Haven't experimented yet with changing religions (packs), but IF they also removed the 3 *active* religions cap from BI we could be having tons of fun with this.

regarding the removal of the Pope, did you assign the Papal land (Rome) to another faction?

I would assign it to the rebels to have it or to Sicily or Milan.

edit the descr_regions file and remove any reference to papal_states. You need to change the file properties so it's not 'read only'.

edit the descr_strat file and remove the papal_states from the list of factions at the start, then
further down put a ; at the start of each line in the block of text that details the papal_states starting resources, characters etc.
You know when your finished because you'll come to the Aztecs.

And it does get rid of inquisitors.

Can't remember the paths but do a search.

I wish we could just make inquisitors handicapped, but of course *that* file has to be the one still in the currently unpackable pack. I don't know if this is really helpful, but every time I see an inquisitor, I put a priest on the same tile as my character. He always leave me alone. In two campaigns as catholic factions this has been the same. Weird.

Thx for telling me that, I was just about to start my first western campaign and feel really handicapped *already* without my agents tweak for RTW (seven levels of agents). Those inquisitors really are a pain, I see everywhere.

But it DOES make sense too, your trick: you are *actively* preaching, raising the faith in your provence. Should get kudos or at least provide some 'cover' of sorts - your conversion percentage is rising then, right?

I also flood an 'invading' priest with umpteen imams too, to more than counter the unrest - my religion will be the one going up, not down. Once he dies or gives up, no replacements, generally. They apparently don't like getting negative results.

Yes you need to remove all non-used factions from descr_regions. Slave is not allowed since 1.3 and up, I believe. I just reassigned everything to the English in this case. Was converting a map, only needed one faction for testing.

Just found out how they do landbridges now (different, and better), so I can finish it up.
