Thanks for your addition nebu and your appreciations! I really need those cheer ups from time to time. Just today, by getting aware about the news that Warhammer will be a 64bit game, I choose to continue this in a new thread for Total War Warhammer.
I have got some results here and via email that have not yet been included in the original post but I am motivated once again to get this sorted out so we have better comparisons to Warhammer later on.

What I did not mention is the resolution I play on ,1440p . I am looking forward to see the performance in Warhammer , a game that personally I am not interested in , yet gives me hope that maybe at it's launch since is warscape engine still ... maybe we will have a patch that will do the same for Attila ,with DX12 support as well since as per CA the graphics are for future video cards .
Looking forward to the new historical title that hopefully will be announced short after the Warhammer launch .
Keep up the great work Al-Qamar and keep us posted .
    Thank you .

it would help me a lot if you could redo the benchmark with a oldschool 1080p resolution and each preset and no customizations and post results and specs like the others using CPU-Z. I am going to browse through the recent additions and add them to the OP if they fit this format.

Hey alQamar. Have u heard, that TW Warhammer supposedly is going to support DX12. That could be great news if they managed to lift the DX11 drawcall limitation that way.

Hey Barb I heard about it in a sidenote (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...1#post14900327)
and I am going to setup a new benchmark thread for Warhammer due to the new 64bit engine. As for the DX12 support I have very mixed feelings, I have done some benchmarks on Rise of Tomb Raider and the new introduced DX12 is performing a lot worse on my 970 than the DX11 model. It becomes even unplayable to be honest with hard framedrops but I don't know if I can expect further improvements by driver or game patch support.

Hello everyone, excuse me for the very very late replies and updates of this topic. In awating of the new Total War Warhammer and planned new benchmark thread I have finally took the time to browse through the many new results, repped them where appropriate and included them into the original post.

Some results are really really interesting imho. User Druout finally posted the first single GPU rig that is able to play Attila on maximum preset very fluidly.
I wonder if this was the one CA took into consideration with "future hardware". Well nitpicking this one, it is not future but just over the top specs.

While in GPU limited scenarios like this one his advantage reads massive, it is also interesting to see that as soon it comes to a CPU limited scenario, all his advantage is blown away and an equally clocked "consumer" i7 is able to beat his professional quad channel memory beast of a computer, with a much weaker Asus GTX 970 (thanks to A Barbarian for his contribution), which again points out that the GPU does not play any big anymore on low settings in Attila!

    Enjoy!

    extreme quality:

I guess it's mostly about memory latency. CPUs are about the same speed and memory bandwidth is obviously higher for the quad channel configuration. But DDR3-2400Mhz-CL10 memory has a much lower latency compared to DDR4-2133Mhz-CL15. That's also the reason why the 5675C- and 5775C Broadwell CPUs with the huge 128MB L4 cache show such a fantastic performance in TW games.

It's so annoying that those CPUs are still the only desktop CPUs with that large L4 cache. The lack of progress in desktop CPU performance in the last 5 years is really depressing. Maybe TW-Warhammer will finally be able to properly utilize more CPU cores, especially with the promised DX12 patch.

If you could run the other presets aswell that would be great for the sake of completeness.

And well @both I need your CPU-Z logs please. either attach them here, post them as pastebin or mail them at twcbenchmarks@chynet.de

Hi guys! Long time lurker here.

A bit late to the party but thought my results were interesting.

I wanted to test the difference between Windows 7 and Windows 10 (which was almost null) and one week later I tested the difference when only CPU power was upgraded, which was intriguing.

(bought the best CPU my mobo can run, will upgrade GPU later this year.)

All run on 1920x1080, CPUs are set to run at constant turbo speed, hence the clocks, Nvidia driver 365.19 WHQL

    1st series of tests:
    Intel Core i7 4771, 3.9 GHz, ASUS Z87-A, 8 GB DDR3 RAM 1600 MHz CL 9-24-24-24 2T@1.50 Volts DualChannel, Gigabyte GTX780 3GB, Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

    Quality: max 63 / min 36 / avg 48
    Max Quality: max 54 / min 26 / avg 40

2nd series of tests, same setup under windows 10
    Intel Core i7 4771, 3.9 GHz, ASUS Z87-A, 8 GB DDR3 RAM 1600 MHz CL 9-24-24-24 2T@1.50 Volts DualChannel, Gigabyte GTX780 3GB, Windows 10 Pro 64bit

    Quality: max 74 / min 38 / avg 48 no change
    Max Quality: max 64 / min 34 / avg 42 + 2fps

3rd series of tests, same as 2nd test but upgraded CPU from 4771 to 4790k:
    Intel Core i7 4790k, 4.4 GHz, ASUS Z87-A, 8 GB DDR3 RAM 1600 MHz CL 9-24-24-24 2T@1.50 Volts DualChannel, Gigabyte GTX780 3GB, Windows 10 Pro 64bit

    Quality: max 86 / min 51 / avg 65 + 17 fps thats 35% better!
    Max Quality: max 60 / min 38 / avg 45 + 3fps

So now I know the GPU was the bottleneck for me for Max Quality and beyond, but for the lower settings it's worth it !

    Cheers

Also, even on MaxQuality when the game is mostly GPU limited, the CPU speed will be the limit when u zoom in on a lot of units. So even on higher settings, the faster CPU should help you in certain scenarios.

Default Re: TWC Total War Attila benchmark thread - last update 25. March 2016

Thank you very much! The first benchmark on lowest setting has constant 60 fps (+/-2) please check what is possibly enabling Vsync I saw it is disabled in the options for Attila but perhaps it is enabled in the driver. At the moment I cannot use it.
