They probably had high level and put multiple points into mass poison, you can do the same thing.
It's rare that the AI actually do something that's dangerous, so why not. I almost always try to poison before attacking if I can.
1180, an unprecedented period of peace and prosperity in East Asia, it's technology and wealth is the envy of the world. But soon conflict will engulf the entire region with great consequences and lasting effects for centuries to come, not just for this region, but the entire known world, when one man, one people, unites.....
We never poison the AI stacks, the AI is easy enough as it is without decimating their armies.
If you chose cunning traits for your generals - it will be harder for enemy spies to poison their provisions since poisoning uses cunning!
currently i am being forced to go past 8 agents that can destroy entire armys.... wonderful. i could understand that they would be able to spread dieseases among my troops just like you could do in Medival 2 total war butlike this is very annoying.... My un defeated roman legions being decimated by agents.....

Welcome to Streamlined Total War. It would be impossible for one guy to stop entire army, only in fantasy.
Best to use no agents mod or limited agents![]()
I'm not sure but it seems like the AI has bonus in terms of agent damage?
Even with an experienced agent and points in poisoning, when I poison an army most of the time it kills ~25-50% of 1-2 units and ~5-10% of 2-5 other units.
When the AI does it sometimes it affects nearly 100% of my units and quite heavily, like a massive attrition.
Cannot be that difficult to open up the PFM and remove the ability to poison armies
I would personally like to see smaller casualties, but the ability to slow enemies down, particularly in your territory, is very nice. It helps with that guerrilla war feeling when I am a Celtic or Iberian nation!
Works well in theory but with how limited armies are (general only and caps+ increased cost/upkeep) its very easy to completely incapacite a whole faction military power (at least locally, on a particular front) using agents.
Its even worst when you are at war with more than 1 AI, because they do feel like they like to aim the human player in priority, so you can get a lot of agent activity per turn. If they all hit you successfully it can completelyyou over. Which is kinda good for challenge, but feels really bad: in a Total War I want to lose in battles not against agents...
I agree, I think that if our dinner got poisoned a few times you would become pretty vigilant on who goes near the food, but the game does not consider this, nor should poison slow or stop an army, it's silly, how many armies in History have lost thousands of men on the march to disease, cold or heat, it does not stop them, it certainly did not stop Hannibal crossing the Alps nor Napoleon's retreat from Russia, so I doubt some soldiers dying of poison are going to hold an army up for 4 months.
If I remember correctly there is a +10% chance to evade agent action if already attacked once. Maybe could increase it to 100% so that you cant have a single entity being spammed to hell.
