Default Pressing Alt goes to 'File' Key

The other day I was in 3dsmax, moving around as I normally do by holding down the alt key and rotating around things with my scroll button. I then (I must have, I figure) pressed something, and now every time I press 'alt' it highlights the top toobar (with file, edit, tools, etc.) and won't let me rotate.

This wasn't a huge hardship until I noticed it was the same in all my applications (such as in windows media player, now the only way I can access the file tab is by pressing alt and then clicking.

Oh gods of the basement, is it hopeless for me?

Hit alt again. In IE you hit alt and the F in File and the E in Edit gets a underline. Hitting Alt again erases them. I will open up 3dsmax and see if I can replicate your problem.

Edit: After checking in 3dsmax, hitting alt does what I described above, then moving the arrow buttons I can navigate the menu without the mouse, hit Alt again and I toggle out of the menu.

    Thanks for reply Alfonso.

Unfortunately the problem is that in order to rotate around as I'm used I need to be holding down the alt key as I rotate. On mine whenever I hold the alt key down it goes to the file tab then and won't let me (probably didn't explain well enough before, sorry)

When your in 3dsmax, below the file menu, how are you rotating "Select" or "Select and rotate" Or is there another icon on the menu that is pressed. A screenshot would help. I am also on msn messenger if you check my profile, you can better help me understand.
