Default Manually uninstalling Medieval 2 Total War

I have been trying to get Medieval 2 total war gold edition to install on my laptop since i got the game a few days ago and I'm getting really pissed off because I can't get it to work because I am terrible at techy stuff. I followed all the instructions at this link http://shoguntotalwar.yuku.com/topic/24456#.VNzsE38gGSM as well as I could but still to no avail. I would greatly appreciate any help someone could offer to me to help me install Kingdoms as i don't want it to be a waste of €15 and was really looking forward to playing the campaigns.

The thread is pretty straight forward, please describe what problem you are having in more detail.
If you have deleted the actual game files I would suggest to use a registry cleaner to remove any possible left overs.

I am having the same problem. I had Kingdoms installed on Steam, but uninstalled it because I wanted to use some mods and couldn't get them into the Steam version. So, I just bought M2TW Gold, and tried to install it. The first attempt started off fine. The first disk seem to install, but it never asked for the second disk. It just completed installing the first disk and sat there. Never got a prompt to insert the second disk. When I eventually inserted it anyway and clicked on the "blank.exe" file, nothing happened.

So, I decided to uninstall and try again. The second time, it wouldn't let me install at all, giving the error message that all components of M2TW Gold were already installed. I went through the manual uninstall guide, but found no applicable registry keys. I've now gone through that manual uninstall process a few times, and just can't find any remaining files, folders, or registry keys for Sega, Medieval, or anything else listed in that uninstall guide. I'm kind of stuck.

Is it possible that the registry keys -- particularly the long letter/number sequences -- are different for M2TW Gold than when that guide was written back in 2007? Because I just can't find anything.
I have not run a registry cleaner. Is there one you could recommend that might help?

I've been playing these games on and off since the original MTW came out, and it's disappointing not being able to play now. Thanks.

Should add that I've run CCleaner, and it's still telling me that M2TW Gold is installed.

Getting mods to work with steam is relatively easy nowadays. All you have to do is a minor edit of the BAT file in the root folder of the mod. To edit a BAT file simply right click it and choose 'edit'. Then replace kingdoms.exe with medieval2.exe
Save, and then start the mod with it's desktop shortcut.

There several uninstall application available that might prove useful, have a look here: http://download.cnet.com/windows/uninstallers/

Thanks - I'm stubborn so I'm going to try to get the disks to work, but I'll redownload the steam copy in the meantime.

Tried a few uninstallers, such as IObit Uninstaller. The problem is that since the program is already uninstalled, it doesn't come up in the list of installed programs to remove. Any of those better at removing remnants of stuff that has already be uninstalled?
