So basically the oh-so-bipolar Total War AI broke down in Diplomacy for no discernible reason - again. Did nothing but help my allies and hurt their enemies, became one of the most powerful factions in the campaign, had full Papal approval, and then without any warning at all everyone turned against me - I even got excommunicated. I did some checking around and basically what it boiled down to was that people got mad for some reason when I blocked trade with every nation that wasn't Catholic or my ally. I understand the Orthodox and Muslims getting miffed about that, but my Catholic allies? I also continuously helped in their ways against their enemies and through diplomacy averted multiple wars between them. Now that I can understand ticking off some people because I'm meddling for my larger game, but I don't understand why the Pope would be mad over that. Most Medieval and Renaissance Popes spent their politics trying to get Catholics to stop fighting each other. Now, granted, some of them - like Hungary, England, France, and Scotland to name a few - behaved pretty scurrilously. But I smacked them down and no one was really that upset. But one day basically out of nowhere the Pope excommunicates me and everything goes down-hill. Remember what I said about blockading trade? Well the AI can't make navies strong enough to break mine down anyway and my economy was so strong I survived the Black Death without ever going into debt. Now those same factions they so desperately wanted trade with are at war with them and gobbling up their frontiers while they busy themselves trying to invade Germany and my other territories - they're failing horribly. My economy allowed me to get ahead of the military advancement curve and create a strong army for myself. Even with Very Hard difficulty on for battles I have very rarely lost - been playing the game for a long, long, long time even before the SS mod - and even then they keep getting massacred and I got to the point where I decimated most of the European powers. I've offered peace in every way I could possibly, but there were no takers. Even Poland who is reduced to two fiefdoms won't agree to a ceasefire, even after I bought the Pope's favor. Now after I basically gave Italy to the Pope and made him love me forever, these other nations won't get off my ass even though so much as putting an army in my territory causes the Pope to unleash a firestorm of Inquisitors and Excommunications upon them. Let's not forget they can't even beat me.

I know console commands to make the AI like/dislike/whatever for you, but I've tried them in this mod and they don't work like they do for Classic. I've honestly only ever used them to screw around before, but now I want to use them to restore political sanity to this mess. Is there a list of console commands for this mod somewhere around here?

Thanks, I knew most of them. But what names do I use for all the factions involved in Stainless Steel? I tried using the present ones and the old ones and nothing seemed to work.

I seem to remember once upon a time there was a list on these forums with commands specific to this mod. Or did I imagine that?

use the one from the text files on factions. descr_strat has a list near the beginning of playable factions. don't capitalize them iirc.

I'm putting them into the in-game console like this:

diplomatic_stance hre denmark allied

Still getting errors. What am I doing wrong?

Not all these commands work in the cheat console and diplomatic_stance is one of them (works in script only).

just console yourself so money, gift alot of it to denmark, eventaully they'll accept an alliance due to relations boost.

Then, you 've better try playing with other AI that may fit your gaming style better.
