Default Playstyle, strengths and weaknesses of the factions

    Hello forum,

Its fairly hard comparing so many units of each faction to figure out the play-style, strengths and weaknesses of them.

    Some are easy, like;
    Rome: Heavy Inf
    Macadon: Pikes
Partha: Heavy Cav and Cav archers

Its would be great to have an overview like this for both gameplay, play-style and to a certain extent RPing.

Specifically, knowing the strengths and weaknesses of Pontus, Getae, and what the Arverni would have over the Subei.

    Thanks

    Hi Kye!

Indeed you are right, not easy to get an overview. Actually you summarized it pretty well already and due to the AOR system the differences may get blurred even more because a faction with weaknesses in one category can compensate with AOR units. But thats a good and very intersting thing I think.

Rome e.g. has also the advantage of their auxilliaries which gives them good versatality.

Pontos I would say has its strength in the defensive like most greek factions. But I didn't play them myself and neither fought against them too often so I might be wrong. (they also have chariots don't they?)

Getae have some decent units with good attack values.

Arverni like most Celts do have some good cav but also decent sword inf. Compared to Suebi I find it easier to fight against Celts than Germans. Suebi have really good archers and cav they are hard to fight against.
Like the British tribes, my currently most feared opponent British units have a tremendous charge and all their units seem to have very high attack values. Not to mention their "uber"-slingers with a defense value of about 80.

Those are just some observations of mine so I might be wrong. I never played any barbarians myself so far. But I would be very interested in someone telling me how to fight British armies in the most efficient way because they are really giving me some trouble esspecially when they come in numbers (and they always do )

    Thanks thats really helpful.

Makes me wish I knew my Roman-era history. I'm so busy that I'm at risk of using all of my spare time just reading up about the factions online and running out of time actually playing the game.

Lol Same here! I also searched the web on infos on the different factions and their units and all the historical aspects.
But the good thing you even learn something new by this game/ mod!

EDIT: @rick, yeah right! They won't break from a single, frontal cav charge! I really was surprised how long they can hold against my very experienced cav units!

The first time you try and charge the British slingers with your cavalry and they whip out their spears! [emoji32] Haha

eastern factions are more about powerful and cheap archers than heavy cav.

rome's infantry is unique in all of DeI. combination of armor penetration against heavy units, testudo in sieges and vs. eastern factions, shieldwall in frontal slug outs, uniformly high stamina and shield weakening pila.
the AoR units tend to be better than the auxilia anyway, the auxilia are hardly game changing. even with subpar cav and range, their infantry provides the complete package for the most part.

diadochi combines hoplite/pike line with strong shock cavs.
greeks are mostly just hoplite based, like sparta.

barb factions are more about infantry charge esp those 2handed ones.

greeks are pretty boring and one dimentional. the diadochi are superior than pure greeks.
rome's infantry are just damn fun to use and very versatile even though their range/cav are subpar.

for the barb factions, iceni/cantabri are probably the strongest overall with their beastly 2h kluddargos and goidilic berserkers.

for the eastern factions, armenia is the best hands down, they have very strong infantry inaddition to range and cavalry.
i'd say the strongest and most well rounded unit rosters are - rome, armenia, and any of the diadochi

    i
I think you got it around buddy, there isn't a single AoR unit that is much better or even on par with Roman aux units Not to mention that only via aux units you will get your two best Roman units, Batavian cohorts
