I guess that the head has been left that way on purpose
I don't know Substance Painter but it seems to be a good one. That's where you can see the difference between "basic" softwares" and "pro" or "semi-pro" one.

    I second both!

Low poly assets for game use, using the pipeline of creating high poly objects and then baking them as normals onto a low poly version. I then exported the low poly assets into the Substance Painter to generate textures and rendered with Iray. Made for my character in one of my university units.

    Looks promising
I'm waiting to see it more evolved. I'm just wondering about the shield which seems to be a bit to curved and its hedge too large. That gives the feeling that it's not right proportioned compare to the armour
But it might be due to the fact that there's no body yet

Just a quick model I made and chucked into substance painter. Not totally happy with the textures at the moment but I'll play around with that more tomorrow.

I don't get the material of the grip.
Is it ivory, marble or enamel?

It would look better if you added a ridge along the blade.

    Good work overall.

From the sword I made previously, I've decided to create a small scene with it. I'll now focus on the environment and add some grass as well as other objects. I also need to touch up on the scutum texture as its not complete yet.

    Why a rifle?
    It looks like a pistol.
Is it for a particular game?

    My opinion:
Overall very nice texturing work, with excellent "metalness", the design of the item does not look sturdy enough for it to be a field weapon.

Come on Pal, it doesn't need to be "realistic". It depends on the purpose of its creation

I look forward to see the scene completed as it looks promising.

No its not for a game, its just CGI it has no real purpose other than for the development of it to improve my skills and be used for portfolio purposes.

Its a rifle because you hold it with two hands, I've already done a pistol which was the original "Manmelter" design, the rifle was something I made up as a step up from the pistol.

It's a sci-fi weapon, the purpose of that genre is so that anything that is imaginative or makes use of speculative fiction falls under it. I do appreciate your comment though.

Comparing the two "Manmelters", I find the pistol to have a "steampunky" quality, while the rifle looks somewhat "flashgordonesque".
I suppose if you don't intend them for a particular game it doesn't matter what connotations they bring forth.

    Nice piece, mate.
I'd like to see a plain crossbow.
By plain I mean no windlass, no lever and wooden arms.
If you can make it in low poly as well it will be superb.

Apparently there are some differences in the above designs but you get the idea of the early crossbow.

    My remarks:
    a) I'm guessing the bow main has parchment wrapped around most of it's body as a means of keeping it dry.
    b) The tips of the bow where the string is fastened are made of a material harder than wood, looks like it's horn in this picture.
    c) The bone tips are fastened to the bow main with what seems to be leather strap.
    d) Also of leather strap (or rope kept dry with leather strap) seems to be the foot loop (in the front) the secures the bow to the ground while it's string is knocked.
    e) L-shaped trigger lever.
    f) Decorated area on the side of the stock, probably a removable panel for the maintenance of the trigger mechanism.
