    Default Night battle perk

At general level up I always head straight for night battles. This provides such an easy way to to take apart 2 armies close together. It's 100% guaranteed to work and it's obtainable on the first upgrade.

Maybe it should only work during long winter nights.

Or have a % chance of working (depending on season!?)

Or feature at the end of the ambush levelling pathway.

I believe DEI are taking a fresh look at the TTT anyway but just want to point out night battles are pretty impressive at cutting down multiple armies

Night battles always felt like an alpha left over to me in R2, especially the fact that you can forget its here (gotta explore all the skills path) and with its bizarre lightning effects.

I dont know if its moddable the way you imply (to make it work like ambush stance), atm its just a player trigger with no variables. And exceptionally OP as you said.

I agree with Butan here. I rarely get that perk or use night battles at all for that matter, since the other perks in that tree are also pretty situational....

I also agree that cutting off enemy reinforcements is a cheap tactic, but it can be very useful in the early game, let's not kid ourselves. If that's the route you want to take, I'd suggest using your spies to poison provisions rather than using night commanders. It has the same effect, and it's a tactic that the AI uses against the player pretty much whenever the opportunity arises, so it's debatable whether it's actually OP if you think in terms of an eye for an eye lol. Also, that effectively gives this dynamic the % chance of working that you suggested without actually having to mod the game design. Especially if your spy isn't the most cunning knife in the drawer....

I like using the spy method to divide and conquer. In addition to the points raised above it also costs money and you only have one spy (at lower imperiums) which has a chance of injury/death.

I guess night battles is a cheap method. So it should be cut out of the game or reworked.

Having to impose house rules does not go down well in these spoilt parts of the forums.

    I don't like house rules:

When you are desperate and have a chance of maybe being eliminated from the game -which almost never happens to veteran players, the tendency is to by pass them. Losing is the best thing a video game can imbue, without it there is no challenge.
Shogun 2, no thanks I will stick with Kingdoms SS.

Is it possible to make the night fighting ability only available for one general at a time ? Or maybe for statesmen only ? I would think some thing like that might be modable.

It is always the first trait I go for as it's invaluable. My suggestion would be for it not to unlock until you get the third tier of that skill which would reflect that general first being interested in that style of fighting but not mastering the ability until he is more experienced

I also think is a little OP. And I choose it also first.

Maybe make it available at a higher tier is the answer.

Yeah, even though the skills have been greatly overhauled, I feel there is some which doesnt feel right and could do with some changes, and the "night commander" tree is one of them.

Feels a bit too strong for me and the AI is barely using it (saw it two times or so), so i stopped using it regulary.

    Till shade is gone,
    till water is gone,
into the Shadow with the teeth bared,
screaming defiance with the last breath,
to spit into Sightblinder's eye on the Last Day

From what I remember you can't reinforce either during night battles, so it's not that OP. By using agents you can overwhelm the opponent's one stack with your 2 stacks and completely smash him.
I agree that it's very efficient at lower levels when your agents are .. well .. crap.
