Default Minor settlements can be upgraded with walls that fully encircle the settlements

Hey all, didnt' see this tidbit of info posted here yet.

"Minor settlements now have towers defending them and small wall pieces that you can garrison archers and stuff on as a kind of defensive measure." "You can upgrade those minor settlements as well, to actually put a wall around them, so you can fortify what, in Rome, were unfortified settlements."

It's quite good, and it's with the times, as many cities of the Empire built their walls during the second part of the IIIth century and the IVth century.

Good news, certainly. I wish they had just made more unique settlements though, especially since I'd like to see a Jerusalem siege. Maybe in Medieval III.

Some good news in regard to that is that cities now are modable which allows for customized unique cities. I myself highly doubt that we will have to wait particularly long untill the modders become familiar enough with the tools for us to see some really cool city-designs.

Jerusalem was destroyed in the second century and rebuilt by the Romans as a colony named Aelia Capitolina. The city was layed out like a standard Roman city but of course with the mountain.

Indeed, but by this time it was a Christian city and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher had already been built, so it would be interesting to see that in the Roman city along with the remains of the Temple Mount.

Of course it's going to be even more impressive if they end up doing Medieval III, where Jerusalem will have to be the regional capital if they stick to the Rome II system.

Yeah it was hinted at awhile back when the game was first announced.

In the preview builds we do see those towers and choke points in action but it's nice that they allow you to upgrade minor settlements with walls. I wonder if it'll be like the garrison/civil main structure.

“The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

Have you had your daily dose of fear yet? craziii

You can upgrade those minor settlements as well, to actually put a wall around them, so you can fortify what, in Rome, were unfortified settlements.

There is no "fully encircle the settlements" but around them the thread title is misleading, even though we can presume as much I prefer to be cautious. Maybe those quotes means that minor settlements will be partially reinforced and harder to get but with pre-made holes in the defensive perimeters, like forts. To fortify is not necessarily to encircle. And fortifications not necessarily means what walled settlements have.

If it was so, its still an improvement and a good one.

If the minor settlements were really able to have walled settlements like defensive capabilities (with proper investment and slot uses) then it would be awesome indeed.
