Office of the First Minister of the Empire

The office of the First Minister is perhaps the largest suite (aside from the royal chambers) in the Landsraad complex, located in the central district of the Imperial Capital on Mars. Here the First Minister meets with dignitaries and representatives from across the Empire as well as sorting through daily reports and news in order to effectively run the Empire.

Iskandar enters his office from one of the corridors that led to the suite during the Landsraad recess. He sighs lightly, rubbing his bald head before sitting down behind his desk. Already indecision was rife in the wake of the Empress's election. It was gonna be a rough first session for the Landsraad unless private ambitions could be abandoned and uniformity could be brought together. That was unlikely though. The Count reaches over to one side of the best and examines a bottle left there. It was a gift from his wife it seems, a vintage from Nu Scorpii. He smiles lightly and uncorks it to pour himself a glass.

A sharp knock on the door interrupts Iskander's settling into his newly appointed office. The doorman informs his new master that a Duke Klaus Graf requests entry.

Iskandar takes a sip of the vintage in his hand before setting it on the desk. He gesture to the doorman to let Duke Graf enter. As Klaus enters, the First Minister sighs.

A nice way to start off the reign of Valeria I, wouldn't you agree, Klaus? The ambitious ones show their colors and indecision is rife among the Landsraad...what a great way to start things off.

He drops a datapad on the desk. Reading it, Iskander learns of the encounter along the Marune border.

"Intelligence suggests they're moving most of their navy to the border," said Klaus, "Long range radar suggests large masses of something are indeed coming forward. They're also allied to the Consortium."

Iskandar takes the datapad and reads its contents. His eyes then look up at Klaus.

This should easily persuade the other Freyma to elect a Lord Admiral immediately...to delay is to risk consequences upon the Empire's citizens and territory.

He shuffles through the report some more, noting the encounter from the details given by the Sixth Battlegroup.

If this is the case, we may have to name you Lord Admiral and seek another Warden...perhaps the Duke of Castor or Terra Nova. With the Lord Treasurer being a merchant lord or someone who is good with money. In any situation, we will have to make decisive decisions. Those that delay because of personal ambition will face the consequences of their actions if troops and citizens die all because they wanted power and not to protect the Empire...

"You can elect someone other than I," said Klaus, "I'm leaving for Delpha presently. I must prepare my forces, and you must arrange for vast reinforcements to be assembled. Terra Nova borders an isolated pocket of the Consortium while Delpha borders the bulk of their territory and the Marune: the hammer shall fall on Delpha."

Klaus turned to leave, meaning to make all haste to Delpha and begin the mobilisation of her forces.

Khosrau Mihram, eldest nephew of Count Calidan, requests an audience with the Prime Minister.

Khosrau is permitted to enter the office of the First Minister. He was currently examining new reports from the Empire's borders. He looks up to see his nephew walk in, gesturing for the male to take a seat.

He bows slightly.

"Or I may call you uncle, even if you have risen to such an office?"

He smiles.

"Uncle I come here to discuss matters of utmost importance for my house"

He sits before his uncle's desk.

"Your eldest niece, Zeb-un-Nisa is my father's heir, thus the second-in-line to Dorsum; her marriage is incredibly important, including the necessary preservation of our name and lineage. I came to ask you advice and council; would you know someone fitting to serve as her groom?"

You ask a serious question, Khosrau. Wouldn't your father be more suited for this task? After all, he is the head of House Dorsum.

"However now that you rose to this office your help will be much more valuable. This is a dynastic, family issue, and family must solve it. We have to search a fitting candidate for her hand, powerful and rich enough, but still willing to modify or lost his surname. Your newly gained influence would be instrumental in looking for such a match"

Ha! You think my newly gained influence will be instrumental? There are those in the Empire that already think I am trying to control it from within. I would have to find your sister a marriage that is suitable not only to your house, but also to our nation. Someone that could prove a valuable asset to the future of the Empire and solidifying your father as well as my position within the Empire.
