    Default Naval Battle Overhaul?

I heard that there was going to be an update somewhere down the line which will overhaul the units and mechanics of naval units. Is this true? What can you share with us and do you have an ETA for it?

If you are doing this, could you make it so the Romans and Hellenic factions get access to that great big ship the Carthaginians have for their admirals? The one with Poseidon on it. Only fitting for a Roman admiral.

Naval overhaul is being planned right now, already a bit of work started. Ships types should be historic to match the units, so could be possible. I guess that egyptain ship is the "Octeres" type? I think the largest warship currently in game.

I know Antony's fleet was famous for having these larger ships, where as Octavian had mostly light ships (Their largest flag ship was the smallest ship in Antony's fleet!) Maybe these ships could be rare but available across the Hellenic world, maybe a region requirement?

Will be nice to reflect the ship sizes for what each culture was famous for: eg Carthage was renowned for its fleet of quadremes whilst the greeks tended to also use even bigger ships like quinqueremes and bigger.

For romans the main ships was probably the Trireme and even mostly smaller ships like Biremes for most of their history, I guess they have the resources to build all the ships but not the same dedicated and experienced crews of rival navies. (but lots of Marine infantry instead! brute force is best for their style!)

The main "battleship" of the 3rd and 2nd c BC was seemingly the pentere (Greek) or quinquereme (Latin). It was also the standard ship for the Roman fleets in the first war against Carthage. Allegedly according to Polybios the Romans built their first quinqueremes after a captured Carthaginian device but that is really debatable. The best theory what a pentere was is in my opinion a rather big ship with three vertical rows of rowers with a ratio of 2:2:1 men on each row top to bottom. It contained huge crews of about 300 rowers and about 80 to 120 soldiers.

Until the DeI naval overhaul is ready you could use f.e. Sirandrewdrakes updated overhaul http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=247326741

I'm actually looking forward to the reimplementation of mercenary ships as well.

I like using Rhodian slingers and Cretan archers in my legions, but it'd be even more fun to use them in my navy as well.

I heard the phrase, "If we have ten Rhodians, we have ten ships" somewhere before as a testament to their excellent sailors.

Of course I'd also like Rhodes and Knossos to be fleshed out more as factions unto themselves, but, that's got to be pretty low priority all things considered.

Also, is it possible to introduce new ship models? The new transports (that look like they got pulled out of Shogun 2 instead of the classical antiquity Mediterranean to be honest...) I don't think I saw in the first 12 patches of rome II, they just used a quadreme model if I'm not mistaken before.

If it is possible to add ships, maybe we can see Enneres and Deceres? Their are historical sources saying that "nines and tens" were around in wars from Alexander the Great all the way to the Roman Civil War.

Edit: Also, I should hope that the naval balancing for a speed aspect doesn't simply follow a linear decrease in speed as ships get bigger, since that has been repeatedly proven not be the case historically.
For example, biremes should be slower than triremes, but quintremes should only be about as fast as biremes.

There was more factors that determined speed in those old ships besides just size and weight.
