    Default Priests and Prisoners

Following my 50-odd turns so far im my campaign, is have uncovered two areas in which I am weak, and on which I would appreciate your experiences and guidance. The topic title gives it away, but:

    Priests:
After the death of my original priest, and only cardinal, I have found it nigh on impossible to get priest's piety on the increase. Send them to distant lands, convert in spain, place them in settlements with an abbey and yet them still refuse to become more pious. The swine. Any advice on this?

    Prisoners:
Having conquered most of France, I have been warned to cease hostilities for 8 turns by the Pope. This I fully intend to do, but following this I will conquer the two remaining, southern most strongolds of those imbecile currs. The faction leader is installed in one of them. Thus far in my campaign, I have not managed to take one character prisoner, and frequently only manage to make a paltry amount from any ransom. Yet again, I ask for your advice.

    Cheers

With priests send them off to provinces with low/no ctholocism in them, i did that to one preist and he ended up with full piety.
I als have not been able to take a noble prisoner yet, but have had the enemy accept the ransom on several occasions.

I recently took the King of Scotland prisoner when he fled the field of battle, total ransom including another general and various others was around 12,000 florins. If you can, try to make sure you chase routers off the field in order to make sure you get prisoners.

For prisoners, it seems to me like you have a higher chance of capturing if the guy isnt actually routing when he's killed.. but i really dont know

But then i managed to capure myself a pope as he ran away (was worth a fortune, unfortunately no one paid it)

Some time's its just the Agents/Priest's fault , Some Agents like Spy's and Assassins don't increase in experience/Subterfuge/Piety etc etc. as they should same thing with preists, even if they dont have any Negative Traits.
My advice is ditch the loser and get another priest and increase his piety .

How do you take prisoners? I haven't played the game but I was wondering. If I attack a unit, let's say a general ad his bodyguard, and they rout, do I let them get away. But if you attack, most likely your men will kill the general, not?

when you are winning a battle and the enemy starts to run, every person you kill after the unit routes is counted as a prisoner. You can choose to do three things with them after the battle:
    A) release without ransom (raises chivalry and gains your country respect in the diplomatic world)
    B) release when they pay the ransom (if they can pay, because kings and princes raise it quiet a bit...) pretty obvious here, gets you money.
    C) kill them all (raises dread and lowers your foreign relations)

When that questions appear? I already did 2 battles taking cittys (just got the game) and made prisioners, but after it i did not see any question, just concerning to the city, if i want occupy, sack or exterminate, but nothing about prisioners....

well seeing how im basing that off of what others who have the new MTW and what i know from the old MTW (which i own) those are your options... its basically the old system reinstated with new sound files so you can hear your prisoners plee for mercy or insist that they will be paid for by their lords. All with their individual accents and sound files... an awsome new feature, but it might only be after a field battle and not a seige...
Total War Games aren't really improving with each generation, simply changing eras...

If you take prisoners from the rebels the screen about them does not come up after battles, its only if you take them from ther factions that you get the screen.
