Downloaded Med II from Steam - After a while when playing Sound stops anyone help?

Hi
I just downloaded Med II from Steam as i wanted to play some of the old MODS. Every thing downloaded fine - started up a new campaign and everything worked fine -after a couple of turns the sound dies -either in campaign or on a battle. if i shut down and restart sounds is there again but same thing happens once i start playing - any one any ideas what might be causing this ? cant find any solutions anywhere..

That could be hardware related.
