    Default Iberian Faction Advice

    Hi,

I've been bashing heads together as Rome on 1.03 which has been great fun but I noticed in a battle alongside one of my Iberian allies (Cantabari I think) that they fielded a unit designated as 'Super heavy spearmen'. Suddenly feeling very inadequate with my very heavy infantry I'm tempted to play as an Iberian faction next, any recommendations based on roster/starting position? They all seem fairly powerful.

    Cheers!

I would recommend the Lusitani. Especially for their starting position: close to Africa and possibly Carthage soon. It can be too easy to turtle down in the corner of Hispania, but as soon as you start to expand it can become a pain.
Roster-wise its a bit like every Iberian factions with some interesting units here and there if I'm not mistaken (I dont own the DLC required to see Lusitani, but I did enjoy a campaign a lot, months ago).

I played a little as the Arevaci. The key I found was shock inf to charge their line then lots of cav. Pretty much just shock everything. Baleiric Slingers for longe range skirmishing then rush their line with your inf throwing javs and flank with your Cav, which is pretty good. I once charged a line of several Carthaginian hoplites and citizen militia up hill and broke them completely with like 6 Light Cav.

And their ability guerilla deployment should be used to its full advantage. Great for a quick attack on the enemy before they can get reinforced or set up a defensive line on top of a hill

Thanks for the tips. Think I'll try the Cantabri because as Menuo says - two hands axes...

In my opinion all iberian factions are OP in sieges becaus eof their guerilla deployment (yes you can use guerilla deployment for siege equipment!!!). It is very nice to set your ladders and rams ~ 50 meters before the enemy walls So you do not suffer from enemy towers and ranged infantry so much! Also having very nice melee attack and the temple of neto helps when fighting on walls

The only thing iberians lack are defensiv formations. However, who needs defensiv formations if he could simply attack via guerilla ?!
