Is it possible to mod the game to have different yearly start dates? So you could pick any year between 272 BC and 28 AD and experience the geopolitical situation at that time. I've always wanted this in Total War. Paradox games do this.

Each new starting date would take propably weeks if not months to change the map.

I guess it would involve the need to change all the starpos and as I understand from Dresden this is not always an easy task.
Yes I was just thinking that. I wanted to play as ptolemoi in 55bc and rebel against rome. Didn't DEI say they would be doing era focused campaigns, or was that RIITR?
IMO Paradox uses a much more modular/granular system that makes editing counties/duchies/etc and rulers/factions easier. Of course, they also had eight years between CK releases as opposed to around two for TW releases (IIRC each game has its own team, whereas CA reuses many team members). CK2 also had much less of a focus on graphics, no battle map, and a number of other differences that made it much more mod-friendly in terms of scope and depth than R2. Remember, we still don't even have a basic map editor for R2, whereas the GOT mod for CK2 came out soon after the game itself.
Beyond the startpos nightmare, is it even possible to define new campaign map options? If so, how would you even access it from the main menu?
It just seems like, since we have the Grand Campaign, CiG, HatG, and IA campaigns you can start at various different points already. Granted, it would be nice to be able to play in the grand campaign map at those start dates, but the options do (sort of exist).
