Default Help picking out a Power Supply

    Hello,

I plan on buying either an X1900XTX or X1950XTX GPU for M2TW.

I'm going to need a new PSU with about 500W. I plan on buying from this store:

Can you help me pick out a good PSU? There are some 500W for $150 and some for $29. What's the difference? If I purchase a cheap one will it crap out? Thanks for your help.

Wattage don't mean anything in a powersupply. I suggest you get a decent one from OCZ or Antec. Like this one.

The prices seems to be a little high, if you live in the US check Newegg.com

It really comes down to what you're willing to spend, but I guess that's true about any hardware you decide to buy. If you want a REALLY good PSU (and I do mean REALLY GOOD), I suggest going with something like the Ultra X2 550W.

If you don't want to spend that much on a single power supply unit though, you can always settle for something like the Power Up 550W which really doesn't compare to the first one in terms of quality, of course, but will obviously "get the job done" as well.

Basically you need to remember that you get what you pay for, if you're willing to spend a lot, you will get all kinds of fancy extras, such as modular cabling, short circuit protection, dualraid, etc.
If you really don't need that kind of stuff, you should probably just go for a reliable and solid 30-40$ GPU, that you know will get the job done.

For a high end graphics card like the X1900XT I suggest you spend at LEAST $60 on your power supply, like what Selahedīn says, you get what you pay for, and a PSU burning out is not cool.
