    Default Will I be upset?

    Hi guys,

Am really looking forward to the release on TWA. However I have one question if anyone here would be able to give me an educated answer.

    My rig:

    ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
    AMD FX 8350 OC @ 4.6
GTX 970 OC'd to recommended safe limit for brand (cant remember right now)
    XFX TS750 PSU
OLD Generic HDD (Soon to be SSD, on order)
    Air cooled Corsair

OK so my concern is that with R2TW I initially, and still do occasionally, get random crashes - black or sometimes orange/brown screen with game still running, rome2.dll, appcrash, apphang's etc (after tweaking so many things and following every bit of advice I could find online this has been greatly reduced) FYI this also happened with all overclock removed, all drivers etc up to date yadda yadda.

If anyone has experienced any of the above and permanently fixed it please tell me. This is not my main concern however as on campaign map, and in smaller battles, the game runs very well and looks amazing!! modded, GEMfx etc. BUT...in large battles, 3 armies etc, or large seige's (Carthage for example) my game grinds to a stuttering mess of a halt, fps seems to drop to 5 or below, but it doesn't even feel like a GPU/FPS issue more a CPU issue, the way everything just judders it's way along (and I can fluidly fly around the battle map still...) it does occasionally have moments of clarity and runs fine for a few seconds and then grinds itself back into oblivion. Finally getting back to some sort of normality when the enemy is almost completely wiped out.

Will the be just the same for Atilla?? I do hope not as I hate that the best battles are just shite and my rig is way OP for the required specs right?? (this is the only game I have issues running).

Any input, thoughts or tips to improve my current R2TW experience would be greatly appreciated as I have run out of ideas..

    Cheers

PS I just bought the CPU so I cant afford to buy an Intel one (and I shouldn't have to right?)...

You will be upset for as long as the engine uses only 1 core. Fx8350 is a good CPU but not so good when only one of it's cores is used

The stuttering issues you have are cpu related. I have the same cpu and overclock and i get the same thing. Its due to the burden pathfinding puts on the first thread.

Do any of you guys know if TWA has been optimised at all in regard to CPU core usages? I've never experienced a game that performs so incredibly different on Intel vs AMD.

I wouldnt buy amd period for cpu nor gpu. Although the diff is less noticeable in re gpu v gpu although I think nvidia are better in the driver dept/stability. So no news about any optimisations re the engine. Expect more of the same.

Shame you got that cpu. If it were me i'd give it a year or so then change it...
Just get total wars on sale then you arent losing out to much. Or pay full price and take a risk...be interesting to know what happens.

Have you made sure all your chipset drivers are up to date? No strange backround processes? Use a driver sweeper prog? No oveheating of cpu/gpu? Crashes or stutter could be due to game itself with your hardware or your hardware in general (i.e drivers and overheating/stability).

If other games have the same issues as in total wars then look at something to do with your setup but as you mention its just total wars running like crap then not much you can do..

You could post here in the amd section with your issues and someone with the same chip can help.
