    Default M2TW too easy?

Is the vanilla campaign on the hardest settings still as easy like they were on rome? Are the battles as quick like they were on rome with enemy units always routing in 30 seconds? Just curious. Chances are i'll be waiting for the realism mod, but if those issues are not with M2TW then i could have fun with it and buy it alot sooner.

Its pretty clear from game testers and the peeps that have it now that M2TW AI is alot better and battles last longer. When you play on h/vh the AI actually gets smarter. Playing the demo I can say for a fact that the AI can be quite smart at times - though dumb occurances to happen.

vh will actually be, well, very hard for a lot of people. there are Vets playing the game who are having trouble on hard and a little bit on medium. and by vets i mean since shogun and the first mtw.

i been playing since shogun, count me in as a vet

the only reason i would wait for a mod would to prolong the battles and make the campaign challenging. I have in my head something like rome but medieval. Anyway, thanks for the info. I'll get it tomorrow.

I hope it is too hard, as long as its hard in the "smart" way and not because the AI is just spamming stuff out.

But everyone would be complaining if it was too easy. Better to have a "very hard" level that people can scale down from than a very hard level that most people can beat.

Today a patch will come out which makes the battle AI much better, the one now is a pre-gold demo version. However the battle AI is already a better than MTW, esp with sieges, taking a city is now a costly affair. On the campaign side of things the AI much much better too.
As player of STW since day one, I have been hanging on my nails every once and a while on vh/vh. ALL aspects are improved, diplomacy is fun now, economy is more complex, recruiting system, the intro of castles and not to forget the pope who is a real pester. They make the game more dynamic and complex. Luckily I got my cardinal elected pope. They make the game more dynamic and complex.
And not to forget the absolutely jaw dropping graphics and sounds.
One battle somewhere in South Anatolia against turkish horse archers and Afghan mercenaries, the remains of my crusader army got surrounded on a hill top at nightfall with fog. Battle lasted for 30 minutes and I was shot to pieces. Hosre archers using the fogg as a shiled, popping up and disappearing before I could do anyhting. Landscape with fog was stunning. What many of us were hoping for with RTW is now for real. This game will be on my computer for a long long time.

i would like if its a bit harder.
especially on the battle scene. the only reason i was sometimes loosing battles on hardest in rtw was because of my stupid mistakes, it was never that computer surprised me with a good attack.

    Agree,
AI smarter and uses proper tactics = good
AI obliterating my armies and burning my villages = bad

I also want to see a tough, but fair AI. I don't care for the AI having an easyer time generating money or amasing huge armies with no way in hell to pay for the unit cost. So like I said, fair be good but cheating be bad.

Everyone with questions on the difficulty of M2TW would be well served to read Lusted's Gold even report stickied at the top of the forum.
CA (and Sega) have most definitely listened to the fans, and all I can say is hurray and congratulations CA (and Sega).

in my opinion, there is one single thing that would make the AI miles better: grouping. I'm not talking about making a group in the battle, but they tend to have five or six armies within a handful of territories. Being human (and a decent general) I've found that (this was on vh/vh) I could absolutely pulverise their nation with a single medium sized army by attacking one army at a time. The AI would not only let me do it, it would send armies of the same size against me, over and over and over again. I've often though how much more fun it would be if the AI just had one large army to meet invaders with...

That's how it was in BI, at least. I haven't bought the other add-on. Got a bit disillusioned with RTW.

So... can anyone answer as to wether that's been fixed or not?

P.S: how's money coming along? I remember being dirt poor at the begginning, every time, and stinking rich at the end, every time. Seemed overly simplistic to me.

After playing the game for a few hours last night I got the overall impression that the game is harder then RTW. I donīt know if its because Iīm not used to the game but I get a lot more realistic troop losses. In RTW I seldom lost more then 5-100 soldiers per battle. In MTW2 I easily loose a few hundred in even battles.

So atleast for me this means I canīt rely on a single army to plow through everything and conquering whole nations. I need to retrain them and get more reinforcments. Numbers matter now and Iīm very reluctant to attack an army that is outnumbering me. I actually failed two sieges (Make sure you use catapults when trying a siegebattle...) I even lost York to the scots at one time!

    Playing the English on H/H.

The French are starting to look like a real threat at this time (about 50 turns into the game) having taken all of spain and portugal aswell as half the HRE lands. They actually scare me! Its great!

since youve played the game, did they get rid of the stupid squalor and distance to capital?

One question from someone who will be buying it tommorow- Do enemy factions expand differently in differant campaigns? I mean, in MTW sometimes the Almohads would conquer half the world, then in another it'd be the french etc etc. In vanilla RTW you could predict quite easily who'd do well and who would go the way of the Dodo...
